I had taken my car to Johnson Motorcars about eight years. The power roof on the convertable top broke leaking fluid on the garage floor. I took the car to Johnson who repaired in about eight days the convertable top system for $1700. I paid him in cash as I always did and presumed he would honor his work.Four months later it was malfunctioning again. I called Johnson who had repaired the top and told him of the failure. He said to bring it in and he could take a look. I did and he had it for another ten days and charged me an additional $1400. After driving approx. 10 miles down the road I noticed fluid leaking from the system onto the dash of my car. I immediatly called Johnson who said bring it back in and he would have a look. I was disappointed in the quality of the work, the time he took and the cavalier attitude he had about my car. I called Johnson and asked if he would stand behind the repairs, he said he would have to take a look. I told him I already paid twice and the repairs were not adaquate. He said he would to take a look but he WOULD charge me again if he need to do repairs!! Now I drive the car and operate the roof manually when needed. Johnson is a crook and used faulty parts to charge me when it broke again.

Not all the facts

Unfortunately this gentleman left out some pretty important facts. I did work on this car for soft top repairs, I did replace two hydraulic cylinders. This top system has eight cylinders. None of the cylinders I replaced failed again. The second repair was a control unit malfunction eight months after the first repair. I offered to replace the remaining cylinders in this top at my cost. The amount charged for the first two repairs was not $3100.00 it was $2110.00. This vehicle has over 250,000 miles, very common for hydraulic top leaks when these cars are over 15 years old and high mileage. This gentlman also sued me in small claims court and lost. I also offered in front of the judge to repair the remaining cylinders at my cost. I explained that I cannot warranty the remaining cylinders in the top system if I did not replace them. I have been in business for 20 years and this was the first time I had ever been in small claims court. I understand his frustration but also felt I made a very sincere and generous offer to resolve the problem.
