Complaint Review: Judy Cottrill Laughner - Ft. Riley, Overland Park, Tonganoxie, Potter Internet

Judy is the mother of 8 children, by 7 different fathers. Because of this, the story is rather complex, and best explained by breaking it up. Background Judy grew up in and around Atchison, KS. Her father, a schizophrenic, was murdered when she was a teen. Her mother is genuinely a nice person, but has a rather checkered past, also. As many parents do, she struggled to take care of her child, and had just discovered she was expecting again. Eleven days after Judy's first birthday, she committed aggravated robbery and subsequently served roughly four years in prison. During this time, Judy stayed with foster parents. Her younger sister was born in prison and then was also released to foster care. I really don't know a ton about her childhood, and because of her affinity for stretching the truth, the things I have heard are likely untrue. The Children (Just as a note, because we are talking about innocent children, I will only address them by initials and identify gender.) G.T. (Son) During the time in which GT was conceived, Judy was 17 and had been in a relationship with a guy named Scot. I do not know all the details, but somehow or another, she ended up pregnant with another man's baby. She personally told me that her mother would invite men into her home to rape her, but after talking with her sister, I was assured this was inherently false, which was my suspicion. She claims not to know who GT's father is, though it is my belief that she does, and just will not back down from her story. Though she and Scot broke up, Scot continued to be a father-figure in his life. In his young adolescent years (I think around 8), Judy deicded she could not care for him, and sent him to Florida to live with Scot, where he remained until he was 16. During this time, she did not pay child support. M.K. (Daughter) At the time in which MK was conceived, Judy was 20 and dating a man named Billy. Because of constant infidelity, Billy ended the relationship. It was immediately thereafter that Judy advised him she was pregnant with his child...or maybe one of three other men's child. Billy began proceedings to establish paternity and his rights as a father before MK was born. After her birth, he tried to "do the right thing" by reconciling. They got an apartment together, but Judy was always out at raves and hanging out with friends. She tried to convince him to join the military to take care of their family. MK was still an infant when Judy left them for another man, Joe. That was after she was caught in bed with another man. Throughout MK's life, her primary residence was with Billy with exception to a 9 month period of time.

Inspite of this, Judy collected welfare for MK, which Billy was subsequently sued for. Fortunately, he prevailed once providing documents to prove MK was in his custody. The period of time in which MK did live with Judy abruptly ended with Billy arrived at her home to find deplorable living conditions including rotten food, animal excrement on beds, etc. Billy took MK and filed an emergency order for custody and won. Judy did not pay child support despite only being ordered to pay less than $100 a month. She signed away her parental rights in December 2012. L.S. (Son) When LS was conceived, MK was barely a year old. Joe was a man she had met at the raves Judy had been attending. Judy married Joe, and desperately tried to get him to join the military, which he refused. This relationship was just as short lived as the previous one, but despite being apart, they remained married. From the time LS was very young his primary residence was with Joe. At one point in time, Joe and LS moved into the 2nd living room of Billy and MK's home. There was never a formal custody order in place, but regardless, Judy did not pay child support. In 2009, Joe and LS moved out of state. From that time and to this day, Judy's contact with LS is limited to Facebook posts. Z.O. (Son) Well, Judy finally found her military man in Derek. As is becoming pattern by this time, ZO was conceived when LS was barely a year old, however she claims to have not known she was pregnant until 5 weeks before ZO's birth. ZO was born prematurely and with significant health issues, which was likely due to the lifelong anorexia/bulimia Judy struggled with.

As with every other relationship, this one was short-lived. She conceived ZV when ZO was an infant and while still in a relationship with Derek. She led he and all of the children to believe ZV was Derek's child, in spite of the fact she was dating a man named Adam while Derek was serving his country. Her relationship with ZO has been significantly different from the other children. I believe it is because she thrives on the sympathy she gets from telling people of ZO's health problems, that he has been the only child that she has maintained contact with. However, it should be noted that while he primarily resides with Derek, Judy has not paid child support nor reimbursed him for the shared medical expenses. Z.V. (Daughter - Deceased) (See Z.O. above) ZV was born prematurely and only lived 19 hours. Despite the fact that Judy had led Derek to believe ZV was his child, the first time it was publicly acknowledged that she was not his child is when the real father's name was put on the birth and death certificates. ZV's bio father paid for all of the funeral expenses, but to this day, Judy has not provided her with a headstone. JT (Daughter)

Six months after ZV was born, YOU GUESSED IT! Judy is pregnant with yet another man's baby. This one is Jeremy's. Yet again, baby is premature. I believe JT was roughly 6 months old when she and Jeremy split. Initially, JT lived with Judy, however when she was around 3 Judy began surrounding herself with teenage druggies that constantly filled her home and occupied her basement. At one point, Judy was having sex with one of the teenagers who goes by the name "Grimm." He was 17, she was 29. It was also during this time that Judy abducted MK and refused to take her to school. After getting kicked out of her house for failing to pay rent, Jeremy took JT into his custody. Judy has not seen JT since 2009 and is currently tens of thousands of dollars in arrears. In 2012, JT's stepmother contacted Judy offering to meet up somewhere so JT could see her mother. Judy got belligerent and declined to see her. She has since agreed to terminate her parental rights to JT. R.W. (Daughter) For the first time since her first child, Judy was not immediately pregnant again. This time it took her 2 years!

Once again, another baby daddy: Dustin. She had RW (now her 7th child, 7th different father) and had a constant "on again off again" relationship with Dustin. When RW was a year old, Judy conceived yet again. L.C. (Daughter) LC is purported to be Dustin's child, despite the fact she was believed to be seeing Dustin's friend around the time she conceived. Dustin has not challenged paternity, and it is thereby assumed that she is his child. Judy hid her pregnancy with LC until around 6 months. Once her family was made aware that she was pregnant, an intervention was staged in an effort to prevent yet another child from being born prematurely as a result of her eating disorder. Judy lived with a family from her church until LC's birth. The church held a babyshower for Judy to provide everything the baby needed, which was literally everything! When LC was born prematurely, Judy's mother went to the hospital and urged Judy to have a tubal ligation. Begrudgingly, she agreed. (She has since stated many times how angry she is at her mother about this.) LC was in the hospital around two weeks before finally being allowed to go home. From the time LC was about 6 weeks old, Judy has left her with others to raise. Primarily, Dustin's parents while Dustin was in jail. Current Happenings Many of Judy's children have not seen her for over 3 years.

In 2009 she advised all of the children's other parents that she would be enlisting in the National Guard. Each of the parents supported this endeavor as she had never been able to hold a job or provide for her brood of children. She apparently enlisted, but then was kicked out. This story as to why she was kicked out is not a thing of certainty. She claims is was because she sprained her ankle in Basic Training. She told one of her children that it was because she had lied about a previous injury she had from a truck falling on her leg. She posted online that she had been kicked out for providing alcohol to minors and fraudulent enlistment. One of the children's dads contacted her recruiter and when he spoke the words, "I am calling to find out if a certain individual is enlisted" the recruiter's response was, "Let me guess, Cottrill. No she has been discharged and banned from drill." What the true story is, will probably always be a mystery.

After she was kicked out, she was couch surfing for several months before she got an apartment where she hosted drinking parties for all of her minor Army friends. She was once again kicked out of for non payment of rent. She then ended up moving in with a man known only as Nacho at the time. That was when she began posting explicit photos of herself on the internet and joining BDSM and l*****n personals sites. She met "Nacho" online but for the first time in person on Christmas Eve. By New Year's Eve, she was engaged. But once again, her wandering eye got in the way of those plans. After her next boy toy was out of her way, she met her current husband, Brian. They had their first date in March and got married June 14th (roughly 6 weeks later, and after having slept with Brian's best friend) without the knowledge of any of her children who had now inherited a new "step-dad." Brian, serving his second tour of duty, left her behind on base and what do you know....ANOTHER BOY TOY! This one is Andrew. The most recent development is that a warrant was issued for her arrest for failure to appear on one of her child support cases and she was arrested, though only spent about 4 hours in jail. She is preparing to leave Kansas for Florida very soon.
