Karen is known in the area as the "Dog Woman." She represents herself as a breeder of Shih Tzu puppies when, in fact, she is a "seller" of Shih Tzu puppies. She is buying them at as young as five weeks of age and selling them for profit, well under the normal eight weeks of age. She seems to have 10 to 20 puppies on hand at all times of various ages.

She sells them out of her home which she describes in the local newspaper as a "puppy nursery setting." She lives in a very nice neighborhood, however, the enviornment in which the puppies live is hardly a nursery setting. All the puppies from various litters and of various ages run freely together eating and relieving themselves whenever and wherever they please. They nurse off of adult dogs that are not their mothers and it is a complete mess inside the house.

The puppy we purchased, regretfully, from her had two parasites that surfaced four days after we bought the puppy. After a 1:30 emergency vet. run, I called her to tell her about the parasites, as she had at least 12 other dogs in her home. I also requested she pay for medical care for the puppy since she sold it to me with the parasites at only seven weeks of age. She was not at all concerned about the health of this puppy or whether it might spread to other dogs she was holding. She was only concerned about the fact that I took it to a vet and was now asking her for money for the medical bill. She specifically stated that I "wouldn't be asking her for money if I knew how little profit she made on these puppies" and she also told me I should have taken it to her in the middle of the night for treatment and she would have administered antibiotics, herself, as opposed to seeking veterinary care.

She is not a breeder and she certainly is not a licensed veterinarian. This puppy was ill and needed I.V. hydration along with bloodwork and finally two prescriptions. She is selling very young puppies, some of who are obviously sick, and it's all about the money. She is a suburban puppy mill and needs to be stopped! I would love to see her closed down. Not because of the money I spent, but because she chooses to live in this mess - these young puppies don't get a choice!

why did you stay so long if you were so offended by the conditions?

Donna and her daughter arrived at my home and walked around my entire first floor. They were there for 4 hours on that afternoon. In addition to that she came back with her husband and son and they were at my home for another two hours. I have owned Shih-tzus for over 30 years. I have bought several as pets. My first 2 pups lived over 12 years and had excellent health until a few months before we lost them. My second experience with a Shih-tzu was a phenominal girl. She lived until 18 and 1/2 years old. Any vet that saw her over the last few years, including MSU Veterinary Services were so surprised at her good health and agelessness. All remarking on the high level of care she had received all her life. I own 3 dogs that I purchased from private breeders and during the search to find them I encountered many breeders that had horrible nasty conditions for their Moms, Studs and puppies. I always made a quick exit because I knew that was not the way I wanted to choose a pup. If the conditions in my home were so nasty why would someone stay that long and then pay $700 for a puppy that she felt was too young to be adopted out? I do not let my puppies go out to their new homes until they are 2lbs or more, they are able to chew and crunch hard food, and they know to go from one room to the area where their food and water are sitting in. Their food is served fresh at least twice a day, I feed the pups pumpkin which is 100% fiber, the water for them is filtered 24/7 and cleaned out at least twice a day, I make sure their sleeping areas of baby crib sheets and fleece blankets are fresh every morning. And yes they are not confined in my home, because I want to start on their house training either to the outdoors or the puppy pads. My home does not smell, and alot of my adoptive owners comment on how clean my house is and they are surprised that I have a group of puppies and there is no odor. My home and the puppy pads get cleaned and washed twice per day. My babies areas are baby play pens or baby cribs. Some people that come think I either have a daycare or grandbabies. I have been selling, breeding and caring for my puppies for four years and I have wonderful references from vets, puppy owners and anyone else that adopt a puppy from me. I hope Donna will stick to the facts, and also not claim that her complaint does not stem from the money. When you sue someone the bottom line is about the money. Thanks Karen

I purchased a puppy from Karen in April.. I have nothing but positive things to say about Karen she is a wonderful lady. We have had our shih tzu puppy for 7 1/2 months and we have had absolutely no problems. My boyfriend and I love Karen and will be purchasing another puppy from Karen in the future. She loves all of her dogs and does not abuse them.. I know many other people that have purchased dogs from her and also have had no problems. So i think you just had a bad experience and need to understand people are human, you have no right to call her an animal abuser.
