I'm sorry I have to do this here but my congregation has had eeee-nough. My name is Cornelius Jefferson and I am a Babtist preacher just outside of Atlanta. Every Monday eve, I offer help to them who need it by way of running what we call, "Open Ears, Open Hearts." It's mostly parents who are concerned about their children who attend. I try to console as well as listen to horrible stories about how school is like for some of these kids. Our church welcomes all walks of life who have faith in the Lord, and I ask myself sometimes how we're supposed to make it through these hard times.

Of recent weeks, the Monday meeting has turned to matters outside the church and school. A parrishioner by the name of Terrel Williams (is it ok to use his name here?), mentioned that he had bought a new car for his son who was going to college at North Carolina State. It had been a present worthy of Edgerrin Williams(his son) who is the first member of his family to go to a real college. However, not more than a month went by before the car's audio system completely died. Now, I know it to be a fact that Edgerrin was a listener to the rap music, specifically a group called Mystikal and another hiphop group named Scarhead.

I have listened to this music and can understand that it is loud with a heavy bass rhythm but this was a new car and it must be assumed that music should be played on the stereo. Edgerrin's radio didn't fail gradually, but rather went completely dead. Now come on. Since Terrel Williams' brave step forward, other people have complained of the automaker Kia's "in-ability" to make good radioes. MY congregation is built on people who are hard working and who value their purchase. I simply won't sit by and watch a car company rob my people of their hard earned money. So, KIA, you best be making some real radioes, real soon. Thank you for your time.

Never had a problem with it mechanically, and the sound system is more than adequate. Any concerns I have ever had since purchasing my Sorento EX 4x4, were addressed to my satisfaction, and in fact, the dealership went above and beyond. Sounds like the problem is with too much bass being used..that will kill speakers.

Tony in Atlanta...you're killing me! HAHA I just purchased an 03 Optima and so far so good. I did *quite* a bit of homework before purchasing my 03 Optima SE-V6 and honestly I think it's a great car. I had XM in my 99 Chrysler 300M and had it transferred over recently to my new Kia. I don't listen to music at a very loud level so my speakers and sound system are working as one would expect. I have read Consumer Reports about both the Hyundai Sonata and the Kia Optima (since they use practically all the same internal parts such as engines/transmission, etc), and both were a Recommended Buy. Yes they depreciate rather quickly but I plan on owning mine until the wheels come off so no biggie there right? I did purchase an extended warranty to the 5 year/60,000 mile manufacturer warranty just to cover myself in case of a problem down the road. Also if you're concerned about recalls and knowing what kind of technical service bulletins your dealer receives go to www.alldata.com You can view information on varying years and models of cars, trucks or SUV's. Wish me luck with my KIA!! :-)

In response to the "Babtist" (hmmm... isn't it Baptist) preacher: A couple of concerns came to mind when reading your report. Why do so many people in your congregation buy Kia vehicles? Especially, if so many others in the church are talking about the problems they are having? Is the problem with the actual radio or the speakers? If the speakers quit working, it is understandable because they are factory speakers and not performance type, which would be expected to eventually fail after repeated loud music and bass that pushes a lot of wattage. Also, it may be heavenly intervention that caused the music to quit playing. It could be an ironic twist of fate that finally got justice for all the other drivers that happen to stop beside one of these loud playing radios at a red light. We all have the freedom to choice what type of music we enjoy and should not have to suffer through listening to someone's stereo and sometimes have the bass from that stereo vibrate parts of our cars. I am now looking at purchasing a speaker system for my vehicle that would blast out an air horn sound continuosly. I believe that this would get the attention of the loud radios, thus maybe suggesting to them that I don't want to hear their music as much as they don't want to hear my air horn over and over until they turn it down!! Maybe a sermon on common courtesy of fellow Now off my soap box.... I have owned my Kia Optima for almost 2 years. No major problems so far, and especially no problems with the factory stereo, cd player, and speakers. But then again I use it at levels that are enjoyable only to people inside the vehicle, which is what it was designed to do.

Kia Junk radios

#5Consumer Suggestion

If you want a good radio then buy a good car. Kia is nothing but junk through and through. You get what you pay for in this life. Let the buyer beware. Common sense will tell you there is no way a quality automobile can be purchased at such low costs. Remember the Ugos? My suggestion, get rid of that death trap piece of Korean trash and buy a Satern SL2. It is a great car for the money. I have had two so far and do nothing but drive them, and of course routine maintenance. Its the best car for the money.
