Life Alert takes advantage of senior citizens by charging high monitoring fees for their equipment. They constantly keep calling people who have inquired about their services until the people finally give into their high pressure selling tactics. These pressured selling tactics are driven by sales reps. who are only concerned with increasing their commission pay. Life Alert states they are their to help the senior citizens in case of an emergency, not true, for the short time I worked for them, they told more lies and pressured more seniors into buying only to increase their commissions.

My advise to anyone is shop around their are other emergency response systems available at a lower cost and equal service.

Three weeks ago Life Alert ran a newspaper add saying if you want a pamphlet on their services call this 800 number. We called and no phamplet was sent. We then got a call from someone in the sales dept on our amswering machine. I called back and was told he was out but "no sense getting a phamplet as sales can tell you everything you need to know". IOW - no chance to read the phamplet and think about it. We called the salsmans extension and left the message "send the phamplet like IN THE AD or don't bother us anymore". No call back but three weeks later still no phamplet.

the op of this report is dead on....i called life alert for some in formation.  a few days later a sales lady called and told me about life alert.   she said to me " let's get your information into the computer, so that we can schedule in the install". i said no, i just wanted information on life alert. again she said about putting the info in the computer.

again i said no, i just want the information.  again she started to say about the information, i just hung up the phone.  at this point you would think it is over, but not with life alert.  for the next 4 days, that lady called and called and called from the same number, which is 800-686-5902.  she called a total of 20 times in 4 days.

when that didn't work, she passed the number off to another life alert person who kept calling.  as the calls came in i would block the phone numbers.  so to the guy who said the op was just a disgruntled ex employee..i don't think so. life alert calls constantly, i've read reports from all over the internet from other people about it, they are pushy,

they use high pressure sales tactics, don't understand the word no, and it is a commission based job..if it wasn't commission based, why would they call you 90 times to buy it?  by the time it was all over my phone number had been passed to 5 different sales people, i was called a total of 47 times in 10 days..but i stopped the phone calls cause i sued life alert for harrassment, which is what they do..

I appreciate your responding. However as I have a 78 year old mother for whom we're looking for some type of medical alert system, I've seen your commercials. I consider fear to be a form of high pressure sales. I'm also sure I would raise an eye brow as to the formula used to make the claim averting a catastrophe every 11 minutes.

But I'm going to be fair, I have a google phone for special occasions, I'll call Life Alert, get some info, record the calls, you know, the usual thing and put it all together on youtube for ya if anything raises an eyebrow. And no, no an ex anything, live in iowa, small business owners, elderly mothers on both sides.

Although one could probably just buy her own company, not mine unfortunately ")

I work for the LifeAlert office that you are talking about and think you are misinformed or uneducated. Obviously you did not last long in your sales position because of the negativity emanating from you.

This product saves lives - 1 every 11 minutes. 4,577 emergency dispatches the last two weeks through out the U.S. We have subscribers and family members who use our equipment and depend on the services to assist in protecting them.

Perhaps it was better you moved on to a different area of expertise because this certainly isn't it.

Life Alert is perhaps the best medical alert choice

Life Alert is one of the best medical alert devices on the market. They offer members and their families true peace of mind. Long term contract? Well, it's 3 years. The odds a senior will need to push their button in that time - 100%. If any member needs more help than Life Alert can provide? All is needed is a simple letter from the assisted living facility of nursing company and the contract is voided. Simple return the equipment. Other than that, the only reason a person would no longer need Life Alert is if they passed away - and if that happens within those 3 years, Life Alert will refund 100% of the money paid into the protection. So really, what is there to lose? If you go with another company, one that doesn't offer any type of contract, how could you possibly take them serious. If something happened to your loved one, how could you hold them accountable? There was no contract to hold them to.
In addition, Life Alert offers monitored smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, all in the hopes of getting the members fully protected. Oh, and yes, Life Alert members continue to call - because unless a person has passed away or has gone into assisted living, "I can't afford it" and "I don't think I'm ready for it" aren't viable excuses for not getting protected. The fact of the matter is that if Life Alert is contacted, there is a need. My 81 year old aunt has been using life alert for a long time and her cost is very reasonable. It's been a very good thing for her to have, and a few times she's been very glad to have it. They even called us when she had to have an ambulance sent. She got her Life Alert through the Canadian Legion, and the cost through them is quite low. We have no complaints about Life Alert, nor does she.

I believe when you mention Dr. C. Everett Koop as a resource to support the company you should be ashamed of yourself because : Fact 1: There are no signals from his account... Not even a testing signal.... Fact 2: He wanted to cancel his account. . . Opinion: He never wore/connected/used the service... Opinion (FROM EMPLOYEE HEAR-SAY): The check he was cut was enormous to entice him to endorse something he wouldn't naturally endorse. On the other side of things Fact : Life Alert HAS and WILL CONTINUE TO save the lives of people's mothers/fathers/sisters/brothers... Fact : There are many people who feel safe with and appreciate the Life Alert service. Opinion : The 3-year contract is a bit long for seniors who don't know whether or not they will make it to tomorrow. Fact : The contract can be canceled early w/ proper documentation to release liability / or fulfillment of a shorter term. Opinion : Researching the market is your best bet because there's always other opportunities... Sometimes you get what you pay for, sometimes you don't... god help us

"Life Alert" is one of MANY companies selling PERS. The problem with Life Alert is their 3 year contract requirement which is ludicrous in the industry. Most reputable companies who offer PERS systems require only a month-to-month contract, or possibly up the three months. 3 Years is far too long. Life Alert's equipment is very out of date as well. A good monitoring system will do a "system check" once a day by contacting the monitoring station. It is always good to know who is answering your alarms as well as many companies outsource taking calls. Also question the amount of subscribers the company has. Do you think you'll get instant service if a call center handles a million subscribers? DO NOT every buy a "GPS" cell phone 911 system. They have NEVER worked because local 911 cannot answer the signals. Period. They are a scam.

I would like to invite anyone to read what actual customers have to say about Life Alert. http://www.lifealert.com/customers/testimonials.aspx Over 1000 testimonials in 3 months and that's only those who wrote to us. Do they sound like they were taken advantage of? We have been helping people for over 20 years. You are obviously a disgruntled ex-salesman. We do not charge a monitoring fee for our equipment. The monthly fee is to keep high quality people in our emergency dispatch center so that our members receive the best possible care when they need it the most. Not everyone wants the cheapest thing they can find when it comes to their mother's safety. Life Alert does not allow high pressure tactics and prohibits dishonesty. We would never be accepted by AARP, Dr. Koop, or have an A+ rating with the BBB if we operated the way you claim. What lies were you asked to tell? What high-pressure tactics were you asked to use? Your posting gives no details because it is false. I have been a salesman for Life Alert for years. The service really does what it says and there is no reason to lie. For you to say that our salespeople are only concerned with their commission means you don't know them. We receive regular reports showing the lives that were saved due to our efforts and it motivates us to do our best. I'm sorry you weren't here long enough to experience what it feels like to make a difference in someone's life. It's not all about the money. I can see why you didn't make it here. Seniors are wise and can see right through insincerity. Just like the readers of your post will not fall for your false accusations.
