I brought my 1995 F-150 into Maaco to get the Presidential service. Carlos offered it to me at the price of 350.00. He told me they would clean and Degrease the bed of the truck before they painted it. Because he said that, I did not clean it. The exact coversation went like this,

Me: What will yall do about the bed?

Carlos: We'll go ahead and clean it and degrease it."

Me: "Ok, great."

I called and was told my truck was ready for pick up. They never called. I have an answering machine and I have been home most of the week. Upon arrival, I went to look at my truck. The following items Maaco placed in the bed of my truck:

1.) Box of cables and wires

2.) Light bar

3.) Spare tire

None of these things belongs to me and I do not appreciate them having my vehicle as their storage compartment. That is highly unprofessional. After paying, I asked the receptionist about washing and waxing the truck. She said not to wash it with anything for 7 days and not to wax it for 12 months. The paperwork that came with the receipt states that it should be waxed at 4-6 weeks after being painted and every 3-4 months thereafter. I returned home to take a better look at my truck and found how careless Maaco truly is. The following is what Maaco did wrong:

1.)Paint on my tires and exhaust pipes.

2.)Bed of truck was not cleaned or degreased and was painted over. A piece of paper was painted over that was in the bed of my truck.

3.)Tailgate has dirt that was painted over.

4.)Cables that connect the tailgate were painted over

5.)Tailgate already has a scratch on it.

6.)Antennae was bent.

7.)I am not certain what day Maaco completed the job because they did not call me but when I arrived the truck was covered in dust.

I called Carlos Diaz as soon as I assessed the work. He informed me that they don't clean the bed of the truck, only spray it down as a courtesy. He said for the money I paid I wouldn't get anything any better. Had I known Maaco would do such a bad job I would have cleaned the vehicle myself and gotten the cheapest paint job. Carlos also said that the paint job wouldn't be perfect for the price I paid. I don't expect anything near perfection and if I did I certainly wouldn't go to Maaco. I do expect to get what I paid for and my wife and I both heard Carlos state that they would clean and degrease the bed.

Maaco contacted me and Carlos again flat out lied. He claims that for an additional amount they do degrease the bed of the truck. The only reason I didn't do it myself is because he lied and said they did it. He also claims all the rough spots on the body that looks like they painted over dirt is actually rust. There was only rust on the bed of my truck no where else. Carlos is a liar. Maaco is pathetic and I will not return. I did not expect them to do a great job but I didn't expect to get lied to either. I didn't expect them to use my truck as storage or to paint over dirt.

We truly apologize that we have an unhappy customer. This job is one that our General Manager remembers in detail. We had two trucks that were similar in body style, make, model and color. These were items that ended up in the wrong truck and entirely our mistake. We were not however using his truck as storage and we apologize for any inconvenience. By the sounds of the customer's concerns, it sounds as if the vehicle was not detailed. A detail involves removing all tape/masking materials, cleaning and touching up overspray, a wash and vacuum and then a Quality Inspection. We regret the customer picked up his vehicle without this being done. We would have gladly had somebody detail it immediately. There were some management problems, which have since been resolved. I hope this customer will give us another try, in the hopes we can show him that we do outstanding work. The receptionist problem has also been addressed and we make sure all of our employees know proper procedures and time-frames for caring for the freshly painted vehicle. For the record, the vehicle can be washed immediately, at home by hand. Do not use automatic car washes until after the 4-6 week period, and the first waxing has been performed. As for the bed, it is nearly impossible to make the inside of a truck bed look like the exterior sheet metal panels. If there was rust in the bed, as the customer stated, it could possibly look like dirt to someone unfamiliar with the painting industry. All beds are degreased (we degrease everything as grease can contaminate our paint booth), but they are made up of corrugated steel and are extremely hard to prepare for paint. Now that we're aware of this complaint, the customer will be contacted and we'll be more than happy to take a look at it and see if we can repair it to his liking. If the number has changed and the aforementioned customer sees this, please don't hesitate to call or bring your truck by the shop. Our number is 281-890-2222. We are the only Maaco in the Houston area in good standing with the BBB! We pride ourselves on this and never want a customer to leave our shop unhappy.
