MacWin Technology Overcharged for repair. Claimed to replace parts but did not. Kowloon, Hong Kong
The keyboard and Trackpad stopped working on my 2015 MacBook Pro Laptop.
It was an intermittant problem - either they would not work at all, or they would work 100% (all keys and trackpad).
I figured it probably needed a new SPI cable or, worst case, one of the microchips on the logic board was burnt out.
I took the computer to MacWin Technology and spoke to Lokesh.
He opened the laptop and claimed there was water damage. There was no water damage but Hong Kong is a humid place - so I didn't challenge him.
He said would do a computer service at HK$350 and call back on Monday night to advise on any repairs needed.
He did not call back on Monday, so I called him on Tuesday. He hadn't started working on the laptop yet. Finally he called on Wednesday to say there were a number of issues . He did not explain them. He said he replaced a couple of micro chips on the logic board and that the trackpad needed replaced. It would cost HK$1700 for the trackpad. I was suspicious, but accepted - just wanted my laptop back. He also said that the keyboard might need to be replaced too, but he would let me know. Hmm suspicious - not the diagnosis i expected, but OK. He said the laptop would be ready to pick up on Friday.
I called on Friday and his technician told me they had had to replace the keyboard too. The price woud now be HK$2500. I received no phone call in advance to confirm it.
I went to collect it on Friday and checked the trackpad and keyboard. They were dirty and had the marks of many years use. There was no way they had been replaced.
I challenged him and he fed me a highly unlikley story, that they had used secondhand parts for the repair. Even if they have been replaced - any respectable technician will tell you in advance and offer you the option to use genuine spares rather than reconditioned ones. They will also ask you if they can go ahead with the repair and confirm that you accept the additional cost.
I have been ripped off.
The learning for me - Get Applecare for three years - especially if it's a business critical computer.
My advice to you - Do not use MacWin Technology - It's a false economy. There are better, more professional options who will guide you through the repair process and seek confimation that additional costs are acceptable.

Fake report to spoil repo and earn money. Possibly from repo build company.
This person is contradicting himself in every sentence. If you are real give us documents we gave you and bring your mac lets see if it is still working or not.
Lets Get things clear over here.

Do you know diffeence between a cable and logic baord chips? you figured it out without opening and checking mac? Genius. Or you took to Apple and got rejected due to liquid damage? When you make up things be carefull as others are not supid.

So you Beleive it is water damage otherwise why you wil leave it for repair and pay checking fee. Or you are not honest enough to tell there is liquid and trying to say humidity is cause? or you were rejected and refused by Apple due to liquid damage. If laptop if open infornt of you then you must have seen liquid marks inside then how can you deny what you see from your own eyes? Nice made up story.

Genral labor charge in hk is 300 to 500 which people do ask by calling us, Secondly we do not work at Night, and never call anyone at night hrs. This shows clearly your are Fake and don't know anything about our working hrs.

Above para is full of crap - So we told you we did not started work on your mac and it is lying in one corner for some time, thats funny, no company will talk to customer like that as no customer wants to hear that. This is called Common Sense. Secondly liquid damage have standrd checking time for 2 to 4 days which includes cleaning so Tuesday said not yet started work and Wednesday alredy gave you update, IMPOSSIBLE (Nice made up story). We did not expalin you what issues were but told you logic board chips have problem and trackpad. LB chips and Trackpad are not parts of Mac? Are these not issues? What are you trying to say and how much lie you will make up. Next Trackpad Cost 1700?? Are you serious ? above you wrote you are smart enought to figure out it is SPI cable and you are not smart enough to know trackpad cost on ebay? and what about logic baord repair cost? Thats was free repair?
My advice to you - Do not use MacWin Technology - It's a false economy. There are better, more professional options who will guide you through the repair process and seek confimation that additional costs are acceptable.
We are opertating for more than 10 years, in HK false company not possible to servive even 1 year given the rents and expenses. So yes your statement is False and we are infact most professional company having long term history. Atleast get basic knowledge about H.K living before writing such a contradicting statements.
Regarding calls we have record of each call in and out so if you are genuine come to our office and we will take you to police station.
FYI just standard logic boad repair cost is 1800 - 2500 this canot include trackpad and keyboard. so there is not question of using second hand keybaord and trackpad for repalcement and you not being informed.
IMPORTANT - These Kind of people run a new business called Repo build. They spoil name for one company and then contact them for moeny to fix the reviews. Be carefull with them as they misslead many people with wrong information. We get these type of calls every month.
FYI - Apple care does not fix water damage or physical damages for free and you need to pay exoensive cost to fix such cases in Apple store. Whatever this guy has wrttin is false and probably he dont even know basics of using mac or deling with Apple.
