I bought the shrimp from the man in the white van because of the ridiculous lines at the Albertsons on the NE Corner of I-17 and the Carefree highway. So although the shrimp may have been better at Albertsons, it probably would have went bad in line due to a 3 hour wait to make my purchase. The shrimpman is no longer there, there's a guy selling selling burritos and enchiladas from a silver van. They were actually pretty good, and I didn't get sick.

Since when does it become safe, from a food-handling perspective, to buy shrimp from a man in a white van on the side of the road? Also, since when is $4 a pound for shrimp considered "outrageously expensive"? The last I checked, shrimp was $10-12 a pound at the grocery store.

Dave, Jumbo Shrimp usually sell for $9-$11 a pound. You can catch them on sale for like $7-$8 but that is rare. So there goes the "outrageous" claim. Now for the common sense part! NEVER buy perishable food from a roadside vendor! Especially one in AZ where it tends to stay around 100 degrees this time of year. Have you lost your mind? You have no idea how old this stuff is or how it has been handled or stored. There are no legal safeguards or inspections of these people. Think about it.

Why would you think it was ok to buy shrimp from a man in a white van, on the streets? Just had to ask.
