Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

Recco (and all of his many personal and company aliases) has a series of complaints with the Better Business Bureau, Yelp, and here on the Ripoff Report that date back to 2008. I wish that I had seen these complaints sooner. My nightmare with Recco dates from mid-2015 to 2016, and is similar to other complaints. He was paid in full (more than $14,000) for a roof replacement and other home renovation services that were contractually engaged and never completed.

He was also paid - in full, and in advance - more than $2000 for the creation and installation of custom iron work. He absconded with the money and has never returned. He has been given 10 months to honor the contract and return the stolen money, and as time has proven, he has no intention. When threatened with litigation, his response was that he would create false invoices and produce receipts to show that I owed HIM money. No matter how friendly or charming he appears to be, don't be fooled like I was. There's a pattern here, and apparently I'm just one more victim.

I work for an electrical contractor and we were also scammed by Marc Recco. This incident started in 2017 and he was (or possibly still is) the owner of a company named Taurus Construction (general contractor). He hired us as an electrical contractor to wire a new art studio. We did the work and Marc never paid us any money. I blame myself for not doing research in to this company and Marc Recco, and for not collecting 50% up front.

I have proof that we did this work from invoices and we even pulled a permit with the City of Austin so there are records on file there. We had lots of correspondence with Marc regarding payment and for a long time he gave us excuses for why he coudlnt pay. We realized he was never going to pay and I've since tried to write negative reviews on his Yelp page to warn others, but Marc flagged my reivews saying they were fake and that I was a disgruntled ex-employee (sound familiar?)

I've also spoken with other people who claim to be past customers who've tried to write negative reviews and those have been removed as well. You can find these removed reviews on the very bottom of his Yelp page. We are still working on taking him to small claims court over this issue. I just want people to know that Marc is a dishonest person who does not have any regret about ripping people off. He had a court case againt him in 2010 for the same issues and you can find details about this on Better Business Burea.

Please do your research on contractor's before hiring them!!

WELL SAID STORY ... BUT JUST THAT.

I am confused as too why people take the task on bashing others with out real proof. This person obviously is very upset but as I said prior it is not me. But according to this person it seems as there is a contractual issue and not a rip-off. I find it odd that that is not my business or my customer but this person insists that it is. These reports serve no value except to bash people at will and one is not allowed to post proof. So maybe this is a very upset ex employee or and ex girlfriend or wife. My point t is these reports should be taken with a grain of salt. As in this report, it just seems like a person with a grudge. As for the story, not much of a thief since you paid him 14k or something, but your complaint is you paid h 2 k but still owed him money. Interesting... Maybe he needs to run a report on you. Again if you have nothing better to do that to bash innocent people that is a pretty sad life. Best wishes.

Consistent with my initial complaint, the guy now claims that my report is not about him

THIS IS DEFINITELY HIM AND HE IS LYING ABOUT IT IN SAYING THAT IT IS NOT!

I wrote my initial complaint about Marc Recco, also known (and previously reported) as Marc Ritacco, in March of 2016. This very well deserved and negative report was written about Recco's services conducted over a period of 2 months in June and July, 2015. The reason that there is an 8 month delay between the period in which he provided poor services and absconded with more than $2000 for repairs that were never performed is due to the fact that I wanted to give him as much time as possible to remedy the situation. "The situation" included work that was paid for and never performed (involving a welder), and poor quality work on a complete roofing job in which he was contractually obligated to perform specific tasks (including replacing flashing) which his subcontractors did not actually do. When one of the subcontractors returned to repair a leak that was a direct result of not replacing the flashing, the subcontractor said that in HIS agreement with Recco, he was not responsible for doing that. In other words, my contract with Recco specified a Statement of Work that was not included in his agreement with his subcontractors and I was therefore SOL.

During that period, this was his pattern:

1. DELAY: First, he promised for 4 months that the work would be performed for the $2000 that was paid in advance, and to repair the roof. It never was.

2. EXCUSES: Next, he made excuses: "It's not my fault, the welder that I hired took the money and can't afford to pay it back," or "my subcontractor says that there is no leak and you are making this up".

3. THREATS: When I told him that I would take him to small claims court to recover the money, he immediately said that I owed HIM money, and that he "had the invoices to prove it". In other words, he would create false invoices and take them to small claims court and attempt to invalidate my claim by lying about me owing him more money.

4. BEGGING FOR TIME: After 5 months, he would acknowledge that he did, in fact, owe me the money, but needed more time because he had just had knee surgery (3 months earlier).

And finally...drumroll on this one...

After 8 months of dealing with his lies and excuses, I gave up and wrote this report. In researching Recco, I found that there were others who had a similar experience with him dating back to 2008 - under different names (Marc Recco, Marc Retacco) and different company aliases and names:

Central Austin Roofing

Central Roofing Austin

Central Roofing (Better Business Bureau)

Rooftech LLC (Better Business Bureau)

Elite Roofing LTD (here on Ripoff Report)

Elite Roofing and Construction (here on Ripoff Report)

Elite Construction and Roofing (Ripoff Report)

AND AS YOU SEE ABOVE, RECCO RESPONDS TO MY REPORT CLAIMING THAT THIS "MUST BE SPAM" AND "IS NOT HIS COMPANY"! It is definitely him. I know because he just sent me an e mail today (June 15, 2016) telling me that he is upset that I posted this review and telling me to take it down.

after many such as we do not have a file or a contract for this particular customer I feel this is a mistake or it could just be some kind of spamthe company would sympathize when things go wrong but unfortunately this is not us.
