My wife and I went to Matthews Motors on August 18, 2007 to purchase a vehicle. We dealt with a salesman named Travis. We told him our credit was not great, he ran reports on both our credit. He came back and said he would put the application in my wife's name since her credit was better than mine.We ended up getting financing thru Americredit and signed a contract. We drove a 2006 Ford Taurus SEL off the lot.

The next week, Americredit called and spoke to my wife. They asked some questions about her income and expenses. The rep then told her she would receive a statement/payment book a couple weeks before the first payment is due. Matthew's Motors called on August 24, 2007 and told my wife that she needed to have more income on the application. We went to the lot on August 25, 2007 and the finance manager, Russ, re-did ALL the paperwork adding me to all of it. He dated all the paperwork August 18, 2007. We then left with a SECOND contract that stated we had financing with Americredit.

On September 17, 2007, Matthew's Motors called and spoke to my wife. They advised her they were NOT able to secure financing and that she needed to find a co-signer or they would come and take the car. We have looked over our contract(s) and do not see anything about "subject to financing" or "subject to loan approval". We had an attorney we know look over the contract that weekend and he did not see anything that says they can take the vehicle back either.

My wife spoke with Russ on September 17, and he is trying to say the second contract is void because Americredit did not approve me. He also claims my wife lied on the application and said she lives with family (other than ME and our children). They made a copy of our lease the first time we were there.

We are filing complaints with the Attorney General, the BBB, filing a RipoffReport, and I will see the attorney we know tonight.

We had a couple meetings with Matthew's Motors, where we made it VERY clear we would NOT return the vehicle because we have a contract. The Finance guy, Russ, actually said out loud to us that they spot delivered the car. We told them we were NOT falling for a spot delivery scam! The finance manager Brian Shinn asked that we give him a week to come up with something, to which we agreed. Brian got us financed through New South Federal Savings Bank, but they did have to lower the price several thousand dollars and Matthew Motor's did have to put in some money towards a down payment to make it happen. Matthew's Motors knew they were wrong, and once they found out we were NOT going to roll over they had to make it right! THANK YOU RipoffReport!! If not for this site I would not have known about spot delivery scams!
