I ordered a free trial. According to the terms and conditions, I had 15 days from the date it was shipped. If I called before that date, I would not be charged the $79.95.

When I called a two days before the trial period ended, they told me I had called too late. In order to avoid the charge, the item was to be returned to them by that date. This made no sense to me and sounded ripoff alarms in my head. They also said the bottle had to be unopened for me to get any refund.

I went to their site and read the terms and conditions. There it says the product must be "postmarked" by the end of the trial. It said nothing about the bottle being opened.

How can you do a free trial if you never open the bottle? None of this made any sense to me. It wasn't just an interpretation error. I knew their rules better than they did.

I insisted on speaking with a supervisor. When I did and quoted from the Terms and Conditions on their website, she said they would give me a "one time personal consideration refund".

After speaking to her, I checked my credit card daily. I saw the charge appear but never the credit. I waited several weeks and then called about my refund. The person I talked to ask me questions to verify my account and said "Your refund will be credited."

Today, one week later and no credit, I called them. I got a voice message saying, "Our offices are closed. Leave your name and phone number and someone will get back to you in 7-10 business days."

I smell a rat. It sounds like they have gone out of business or just changed their phone number so people like me can't get to them. I am going to dispute the charge on my credit card. I will also send a letter to the Federal Trade Commission.

Their website is still selling "free trials". Their phone number is the same.

I've tried several free trials and never had an experience like this.
