The Mayan Palace timeshare presentation is a total fraud. We thought we were trading our equity in our two existing timeshare properties for one week per year at the Mayan Palace. Little did we know that the Mayan Palace charged over $9,000 to a new RCI credit card issued by B of A. We knew we signed up for the credit cards but we had absolutely no idea that they were charging the card.

We were visiting the Mayan Palace in Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point), Mexico in October 2008 from a trade from our Shell timeshare (another worthless purchase). The Mayan Palace is a beautiful resort but it definitely does have negative aspects. The best thing is that it is an easy four hour drive from Phoenix - closest beach to Phoenix. We had sat through timeshare presentation before so we knew what to expect but when they offered to take our timeshares in trade for the down payment and then help us sell the timeshares before we had to start making payments, we decided to enter into an agreement. Shame on us for not thoroughly reading the agreement but the salemen assured us what the deal was. There is no way in the world that my wife and I would have agreed to the contract had we known that Mayan Palace was going to bill us $9,125 for the downpayment and that Mayan Palace was not going to help us sell our existing timeshare properties prior to the payments starting for the new timeshare.

We have been in contact with B of A several times and as it stands now, they are going to hold us accountable for these charges. We were in contact with the salespeople at the Mayan Palace early in the process but have not heard from them in many months. As I said before, the resort itself is not that bad but the sales staff are total liers and comitted fraud. Unfortunately this transaction did not take place in the United States and the contract is governed by the laws of Mexico. There are several websites devoted to timeshare info and fraud and I wish I had read some of those reports before dealing with the Mayan Palace. We must band together to put those liers out of business. There are so many travel deals on the internet now I have no idea why anyone would buy a timeshare these days.

DON'T BUY AT THE MAYAN PALACE.

I'm glad that your issue was resolved, but what a hassle is to get a final solution. They completely lie in their presentations. Mayan Palace sales tactics are hardcore and they will tell you anything you want to hear to get you into the contract and keep you in contract with them, and dealing with Mayan Palace after the purchase of your timeshare can be a little frustrated. Especially because customer service won’t get you the answers you expect- I recommend you to read this article from Mexican Timeshare Solutions about Mayan Palace: Mayan Palace Timeshare Scam

My dispute with the Mayan Palace for a timeshare contract at Puerto Penasco has been completely resolved. I no longer have any dispute whatsoever with the Mayan Palace. The Mayan Palace Resort at Puerto Penasco is a beautiful resort and spa within easy driving distance of Phoenix and Tucson and I highly recommend visiting. It has a beautiful pool area and the beach is magnificent. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable.
