Yes, we were caught in this timeshare trap too.

When we arrived at the airport in Mexico, I had paid for a service to take us to our hotel in Cancun.  On our way out, a woman grabbed my paper and directed us to a young man standing by a podium looking thing.  He looked at the papers, and started talking about a free breakfast and some tee shirts. Turns out they are just appointment setters for this time share scam. My husband likes an adventure, so we agreed to meet this young man the next morning outside our hotel.  He stuck us in a cab with a driver that spoke no english and we went on a 40 minute drive to the Mayan Palace in Rivera Maya.

When we arrived, there are people who greet you and then
have you start filling out paperwork, especially asking if you own another timeshare, which we did.  We have 14,000 points in Hawaii each year with RCI.  They tried to get me to use their internet to log onto my account to show them. Due to their spotty internet, I was not able to log on.

We had breakfast at their buffet, which was good, and then our salesman Will Kingdon, from Canada took us on a tour and started the high pressure sales.

We were told that because they were a part of RCI, they could trade our points, and get money back if we didn't use it.  Will brought up the fact that our Hawaiian timeshare is currently trying to settle a lawsuit brought on as a class action suit due to improperly making us owners of four properties, thereby trying to charge special assessments if other resorts need to be fixed.

We were told we would get $1700.00 per year if we didn't use it.

So for EIGHT hours, we were pushed, prodded and lied to.

We expected a trade, and when all was said and done, we were told they were giving us back the Hawaiian timeshare, and writing it off as their loss...What?

Thankfully for my friend, I was able to warn them to stay away, as they made the trip to Cancun last week.  They were also approached at the airport, but my warning saved them.  Another friend of mine goes to Rivera Maya with a large group from a local rock radio station each January.  I will make sure they all are aware of this scam, and I will also put my comments on the pissed off report site!

Amusing that Mayan Palace has a 'confidentiality' agreement.  If it were great, shouldn't I want to tell everyone to join?

I will be starting a website to post as much warning about timeshares and vacation clubs as I can.
I will post the info as soon as I have it started.

Do your homework and don't let the pressure get to you!!

Yes, unfortunately Mayan Palace is one of the most fraudulent resorts!! I also had a bad experience with them, the way they treated me, and all the lies i've heard.

The worst thing is that once you fall into their scam tactics it's almost impossible to get out.

Here's a list of complaints about this resort i've found recently,

you should take a look: timesharescam.com/timeshare-complaints-resorts-black-list/3-mayan-palace-timeshare-complaints/

Don't give up, i still have hope that sooner or later we are going to make a difference against those thieves.

I had a horrible experience at Mayan Palace!! Not only was the presentation 3 hours (promised 90 minutes), but they DID NOT give us what they promised for going. They offered a 4 night paid vacation, and we got NOTHING. We received what looks like a gift card, and they told us we would just need to call the number on the back to book. When we got back to home and called it was NOTHING. Not a vacation, not a discount for a vacation.....NOTHING. We called and emailed Mayan Palace, and they did nothing about it. They gave us an email address, which we have never got a return email on yet. (several tries). The people on the phone say that is the only way to be helped... they are unwilling to help

Many people have been scammed out of money for attending a Mayan Palace timeshare presentation, so it could have been worse. I've been to other legit timeshare presentations, but this one scarred me. DO NOT GO....and if you do, be prepared for some super hard selling. They will change people on you 5 times before you can claw your way out of there.

I know from Mayan Palace that many clients have complained that when they go to cancel within the 5 day period, they tell them that their deposit is non-refundable, and they are then persuaded into a downgraded membership, and Mayan Palace has a terrible reputation regarding timeshares, shame on them. This is a good article on how most of the Mayan Palace Timeshare scams are being committed. Another resort that works similar is El Cid, El Cid is willing to tell you anything you want to hear just to be able to get a sale done: El Cid Resort

Although we don't agree with the sales tactics at Mayan Palace, I have come to realize that we should have contacted them BEFORE I trashed them.  When we contacted mayanpalace.com, Ingrid Ernst was able to process our membership cancellation, and refund our money.  We are completely satisfied with the results.

You are not alone on this. Mayan palace is one of the most fraudulent timeshare companies in Mexico, their sales tactics are hardcore and they will tell you anything you want to hear to get you into the contract and keep you in contract with them, and dealing with Mayan Palace after the purchase of your timeshare can be a little frustrated. Especially because customer service wont get you the answers you expect to get when it comes on how to use your timeshare or trying to Book your next vacations, lucky if you are able to do book anything dont give up and fight for your timeshare cancellation! there is a company called Mexican Timeshare Solutions that can give you a free consultation on your matter, you should contact them, this is their website:
