Sheila Ripped Off My Check for Double Payments McCarthy, Burgess and Wolfe Cleveland, Ohio
I have been dealing with this company for an old Yellow Pages for about a year now. When I first spoke with them I explained that the bill was from a now closed company that lost money and was in my husband's name. They were rude and abrasive at first so I just kept hanging up on them. At the same time I was working on repairing my husband's credit so after a month or so when they called back I decided to work with them.
The woman had calmed down somewhat and I explained that I was going through a rough time financially, but did want to work on taking care of the debt. I agreed to pay $50 monthly even though the balance was pretty high and told her that was all I could afford. My mistake was that I let them automatically withdraw it from my checking account. After about six months she called me and told me that it wasn't enough anymore and they needed a larger monthly payment. Well...I told her I couldn't afford it and if she didn't like it she wouldn't get anything from me and hung up the phone.
Two months later I noticed a withdrawal from my account for $100. I was paying something else and figured that it must be for that. The next month the same thing happened. When I looked on the computer for an image of the checks for both of those withdrawals the image was blank. I called the bank and they told me who had withdrawn the money. I immediately closed the account and called McCarthy, Burgess and Wolfe and cussed them out and also reported them to the MA Attorney General's office. The whole tone of "Sheila's" voice changed then and I haven't had any problems with them since.
I am paying off the debt, but with Money Orders that I mail, and I get a letter from them every month stating the balance on the account. Beware of this Collection Agency!
