I succumbed to a telemarketer's pitch for MCI telling me that I would get a lower rate than what I was paying with AT&T.

Little did I know that they would render my phone useless for calling out of state. 3 weeks after I switched , I tried to call a relative out of state and got a recorded message saying that my call could not be completed.

I immediately called MCI to find out why, and was told that I had to dial a 10 10 222 number first. ( they failed to disclose that vital bit of information in their sales pitch.)

I tried my call again with the 10 10 222 number, to no avail. By this time I was thoroughly disgusted and called MCI again.

After listening to all the crap on the automated system ( I HATE THEM ) , I chose the option to discontinue the service. This immediately brought a human to the phone and I explained to him why I was cancelling the service.

Needless to say, he tried to talk me out of cancellation and offered to initiate a service request to see what the problem was.

I asked how long this process would take and I was told 72 hours. I then informed him that that was unacceptable, since I had already given them enough time to get the service set up.

They then told me I would have to call another carrier to change service again ( the telemarketer told me that MCI would change me back to AT&T if I was unhappy for any reason) I then called AT&T and switched back.

It may be a little more expensive, but at least it works. A word to the wise : even in long distance phone service, you get what you pay for.
