We made arrangements for training services and worked out payment in advance. As a first time breeder I required his services since my dog was very hyper and I didn't want her to accidentally hurt the upcoming litter. I said she needed help to calm down, not jump, not bark, and not chew. She has anxiety and still barks, jumps, and chews. She has to be in a kennel at night or she destroys the house. The only improvement is she has calmed down. We no longer reward hyper activity and that quickly eliminated a lot of that issue. The other requirement was that she would need a dog kennel for the training purposes. Her current ones were to big and small. She needed one for her size. As payment for services and a proper kennel, we would give him a puppy from our litter for free. He had planned to originally purchase one so this arrangement worked for everyone at the time. The puppy would have originally been sold for $300 to pay for all vet costs and the puppies package. His litter mates sold for $300, $250, and $150 (as a discounted price to a friend). The dog kennel is worth roughly only $50. It has been 3 months since he took the puppy and completed training to his ability. Since then he was also paid for grooming and was to clip our two dogs nails. Only two toes were ever clipped out of 8 paws. He didn't want to scare them he said. Even though they've been to groomers before. That was 2 months ago, they've yet to have their nails clipped even though it was paid for. So I've made a groomers appointment elsewhere. Now he is asking for the kennel back and claiming the original payment was for services and not the kennel. Services he was never asked to do nor did he even fulfil. I plan to give back the kennel because $50 to me isn't worth a big fuss. However it speaks to his character. I politely asked if maybe he had forgotten our original agreement and he responded with "can you prove it". This kind of response and behavior makes him a person that I would not want any further transactions with. I would not recommend him and I suggest if you choose this route, that you have a contract. Also since his advice was $300, I feel I will share it with you for free. *Don't pet your dog when they are hyper or jumping. Make them sit first.
