I didn't know anythig about fingerhut until I decided to buy a house. I was notified by my lender that I had an outstanding report for fingerhut on my credit. Until I started to investigate them on my own I thought the were an actual pyhsical store. I later found out they were a catalog.

I called the number I found a customer sevrice number on the internet for them and called. I was told fingerhut accounts over a certian number of years old were no longer something I could be helped with, I was given an 800 number and eventually spoke to a person whom I repeated my story to for the umpteenth time and tried to explain to her I have NEVER owned ANY credit card including fingerhut. She proceeded to tell me if I pay my bills on time I won't have to worry about collections on my credit report.

I don't have to tell you how pissed that made me. About a week later I recieved a letter from Midland offering to settle my account I sent a money order for the settlement because I wanted a house. I also was supposed to recieve a letter saying it was paid. I never saw that letter.

Now several months later started recieving letters from Midland Credit again offering to settle the same account for 239.93 that's more than I sent the last time and they are saying this is 50% off the total debt owed! How many times are you expected to pay debt that wasn't mine to begin with.

I realize I screwed up by sending any money at all but is there a way to fix this mess, it's still on my credit and I still don't have my house because I can't get proof this is taken care of. I need some way to dispute this charge that will get results.

Ok so you messed up and paid these bafoons. It's ok, let's just not do it again! :0) This is what you *need* to do. Get a hard copy of your credit report. More than likely good ole Midland IS still listed and doing alot of damage to your report. Send Midland a response to the letter you just received. To whom it may concern. I dispute this alledged debt and request validation. All phone calls are inconvienant please respond via U.S. Mail ONLY. Signed You Send this CERTIFIED MAIL Returned Receipt. Now, once you get your reports. If Midland is listed on your credit report, look for innacuracies. Need help doing this then feel ree to get in touch with me and I'll try to help.. Keep in mind I am NOT an attorney, just a pissed off consumer who is TIRED of Collection Agencies ABUSING consumers! As for Midland? See ya in court! :)
