MINI VACATION, INC. MVI MARKETING TRAVEL RIP-OFF BY MINI-VACATIONS, INC. OF TAMPA, FL. OBTAINED BY TIME SHARE VISIT IN ARIZONA TAMPA Florida
We visited a time share in Arizona where we were given a "free cruise" certificate and told to contact Mini-Vacations, Inc. which we did.
We selected a cruise on Carnival Cruise Lines and were told we would have a bunk bed cabin unless we chose to upgrade.
We did, for the sum of $987.80. In addition, separately, we purchased flights $800., plus $111. for travel insurance (which was worthless since the insurer does not cover a travel agency who goes out of business or is shut down by the Federal Trade Commission, as was the case with Mini-Vacations on Tuesday, Feb. 7th.)
We tried to no avail to contact Mini-Vacations, Inc. for the past 2 weeks after being told 3 weeks ago that we should have our travel documents in about 1 week.
Each time we called after some 30+ calls, we received a recording that said they were very busy, and asking that we call back.
On Wednesday, Feb. 8th, when attempting to reach them on their website, we found their website to be shut down and not reacable.
On that day, we called the Attorney General's Office of Tampa who directed us to another agency who informed us that the Federal Trade Commission had shut down the business operations of Mini-Vacations, Inc. on Tuesday, February 7, 2006.
We contacted Carnival Cruise Lines who informed us that they had no record of any booking for us on the expected date of departure of February 19, 2006 on the Carnival Miracle.
They also checked found no booking for us on any other Carnival ship and had, in fact, had not heard of Mini-Vacations and had no record of our credit card number in their system as another way to check for a booking for us.
