My husband and I recently bought a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport from Tom. This was the worst expierence I have EVER had in my life! We picked it up and got about 1/4 of a mile down the roaad when it kept stalling. We pulled into a gas station which was hard because the power steering went out.
When we got it back to the lot Tom was already gone. I called and he did say they would fix it. When we went back to get it 2 days later, Tom and Fred said "we will make it right, we will not screw you over". We got almost home and noticed a lot of smoke coming from underneath. My husband looked and they had duct taped the exhaust up and the duct tape had caught on fire. After further inspection the exhaust was not even hooked up to anything.
We finally took the SUV to a auto shop where we could have it looked over and inspected. It turned out that it has a burnt valve, exhaust is rusted out, the calipers are very bad, the windshield whipers do not work, the horn doesn't work, and the tailgate does not open. It is going to cost 3 times the amount to fix everything than we paid for it.
We have tried numerous times to contact these people and all we get is the run around. They say we will give Tom the message, we will have Tom call you back. Tom refuses to call us back. We have went back to the car lot and Tom is never there. I highly reccommend that everyone stay away from this car lot!!

When you bought this thing, did you get a warranty? If not, you bought it "as is" in which case all repairs are on you.
You mentioned some very obvious, easy to spot problems. Did you even bother to test drive this thing and check each and every accessory? I think we know the answer to that.
Oh yes, you take it to be checked out by a mechanic AFTER you bought it! That's surely a smart thing to do.
