About 3 years ago MMT Music/Bruce Goodwin placed an ad in our home town paper."STAR SEARCH" it was titled. We called the phone number and was told that they were looking for vocalist. There would be a sign up fee, which I canot remember the amount, and you could sing one song. You would be filmed and have the opportunity to win a record deal.

AND if you sold enough tickets to the showcase, you could sing more than one song.Which would give you the chance to really show your talent.

Well,I had a child who was very talented and thought, ok...maybe this was the way things are done.We went with high hopes to the showcase.A few days after the showcase we got a phone call from Bruce Goodwin. He said that our child was wonderful and talented and for 2,500 he would be willing to send her original music, get her recorded and see what he could do.I will say that he NEVER made any guarantees to us.He even said that there was NO guarantee that he could make her a "star".

With that understood, we had him send a contract. Signed contract and $2,500 went off to MMT MUSIC.Since that time we have received numerous cassettes containing what I call twangy 60's style country music. We have asked that he send more modern sounding music only to receive more old style stuff.

I have ran into 2 people that I saw showcased that day. Both of them said they had been contacted by Bruce Goodwin. One of which myself and others in that showcase audience had a hard time not laughing. He was just awful! At that point I felt I had given our money to someone who would take money from anyone who had it to give.Someone who robbed people legally through their dreams of stardom.

My tip to anyone who is looking into working with Bruce Goodwin or MMT Music is to ask for samples of work he has done. Ask for letters of recommendations and ask for proof he has helped in the success of those who he claims he has had a hand in.

Unfortunately,it is very hard to know when people are trying to help you or just trying to take your money. MMT Music/Bruce Goodwin did what he said he would do. He DID tape my child's performance,he DID send her music..but do to the lack of quality of the music she has not recorded anything.

So, make sure your contract mentions current up to date sounds for your music.Whether this company can deliver everything it claims, I don't know. We haven't been able to get past the bad music to find out.

I don't know who Walt is that responded on Mr. Goodwin's behalf, but he is referring to something that happened 12 years ago and has nothing whatsoever to do with the current MMT situation. I am part of Bob Davis Agency and Management, a company who has in the past represented some of the greatest artists ever, including Michael and Janet Jackson, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Waylon Jennings, just to name a few. My company has recently signed with a group that was nailed by the MMT deal. They answered a 'Star Search' ad, paid their fee, and like all the others, were contacted by MMT about signing with them. As good as I can tell, no other group or company has ever contacted one of the artists from any of these 'Star Search' appearances other than MMT. There is also compelling evidence that, while MMT and Songbird may not be the same company, they are linked, along with Angel Wing music, as part of the MMT group. The fact is, my act has personally lost over $9000 and received what is arguably one of the worst produced demos I have ever heard, and were also given fraudulent forms that also added to the charade. The fact is, my company has been doing business since the early 70's with major talent as well as unsigned talent, and I can confidently say, that I have seen no professionalism nor any type of successful venture ever started by MMT Music.

Yes I indeed know Bruce. About 12 years ago my daughter and I contracted to do two Albums with him, she doing the singing. My daughter had at that time opened for 23 top coutry music stars and had charted a recod on Music Row. Bruce met with us and told us that he would like her to do a couple albums. We agreed to. He then sent us a lot of songs. Some were in dire need of help and Bruce helped us to work with the song writers in order to make the adjustments needed to bring them to commercial quality. It was not easy as some of these writers thought they had perfect songs as it was. We then went to the studio where I was amazed to find that Sonny Ledet was going to Engineer the project. Mr. Ledet at the time was an engineer for the station that carries The Grand Ole Opry. Also there was Willie Rainsford, Mr. Rainsford keyboard playing can be heard on 25 number one hit records to include some by Alabama. Kenny Butrey drummed that session, he also did sessions with Elvis. We left that studio with two very great projects. Yes, we paid our expenses. Yes we purchased our own copies. There is a lot of talk about the Major labels and how great they are, but I see this talk is from people who have no experience with them. The great signing bonuses you hear about, You are given that money to go into the studio with to start your project, not to go party with. It is also detracted from any future earning you make. Indie labels have thier troubles, but there is no such thing as a free ride. The best thing you can do if starting out is find an indie label who will work in partnerhsip with you. Expect long hours, a lot of disappointment and one day you may make it. But your chances are as good as buying a lottery ticket and winning. Talent sadly is just a small part of it, luck is the major part. Indie labels have to cover thier expenses and any of them will be happy to show you the cost involved. You think $2500.00 really covers it all ? They tell you not to even go to Nashville now if you have less the $50,000.00 to lose.I own a studio, my actual cost for a ten song demo when I have to pay musicians, get mastering services, back up vocals,is about $2500.00. If you are going to record other peoples music then I have to get it cleared through BMI, ASCAP or HFA, at a cost of about $50.00 a song. My studio is a small one, but there is over $100,000.00 investde in it. I am not ashamed to say I built it to make money with. I also do management and publishing. My artist help pay the cost they incure and I try to get them bookings to make thier money back. Maybe you folks feel ripped off, but from what I read in your statements, you heard what you wanted to hear, you did not stop and listen to what was being said. No one can make you a star, and from what I read no one has told any of you that. Bruce did not tell us that 12 years ago. But Porter Waggoner told me something once " You got to try everythng, sing every where they will let you, because you never know where it may lead". I agree with that. We got two great projects with Bruce. They did not get us anywhere, but that was not Bruce's nor our faults, That is just the way it is.

I still have the news paper ad. And it says plain as day :"STAR SEARCH" I know how to read .And all this talk about this plan and that plan may be how things are done at the current time. But Bruce Goodwin NEVER mentioned anything else to us.But why should anyone believe you anyways, you work for the man in one way or another. Somehow you get your back scratched by Bruce Goodwin. It is only natural for you to come to his defense when it affects your bread and butter. But please don't think anyone really believes you..... Our contract was under my previous name and I never said that I lived in Orlando when this all took place. And the man I was referring to in my claim was NOT singing an original song. You must have been present for another rip off session that I chose not to attend. I am not a fool. We have attended great events that showcase talent.I am well aware that talent comes in all shapes, sizes and colors.I am aware that there are people with wonderful voices that are used for voice overs, their writing abilities and such. Please don't talk down to me .It is the least you can do since I have put a few meals on your table.

First I would like to apologize for your disatisfaction with MMT Music Group. After the 12 years which this group of producers have been in the Industry, we have helped a multitude of artist reach new levels in their careers. We have contracts where an artist can do 10 original songs, anystyle of original music they desire. The artist has the final say on their product. This is the best for your money which means it will be the most costly. You will be the only customer (the studio) will be working with till untilthe sound tract is complete. There will be an engineer along with Mr. Goodwin for 4,8,10, or even 12 hours whatever is necessary, for ompletion of your work to ensure a professional recording. There will be musicians, that will put original sounds to your satisfaction and back up vocals to enhance your voice. Even though this is costly, it is the professional route to take. There are variious agreements such as a 4 song agreement, where we help you basically do the same thing in the studio, but at half the cost (which is good for songwriter's). Then we have what is called a "Tract Agreement" which is cost efficient route for artist's who want to get reconized as a vocalist. This was the contract you decided on,which are songs that were previously recorded by songwriters of which we have master tapes. This is where all the artist does is sing to music already composed. We do not have the right to change the writer's lyrics or the melody for which they hold copyrights on. We have the ability to send you 10 songs a week, for a year from various artist's from around the country. These songs are from numerous walks of life and a variety of different styles. If you're still unsatisfied, we would reccommend teaming up with a professional songwriter to find what would please you. The country music today is so versitile, one week I here a band in top 10 in country that sounds like ZZ Top, the next week I hear one that sounds like Johnny Paycheck. Thank God there is diversity in country music that is why we do talk to all performers at showcases. They also have dreams for which they have paid their entrance fee to have a record producer listen to their performances. We do not show disrespect to anyone or say anything to stop their belief in their dreams. The man you feel was so bad that it made you laugh, sang an original song he had wrote. It is artist like him, from which we find tomorrow's hits. Yes, we may talk to someone who weighs 500lbs which we may help become a back up vocalist in the music industry, perhaps even a Star! We are not affiliated with Starsearch, nor did we place an ad. We were one of many producers invited. Yes,we are known to travel the backroads of America to find artist that have the ability to move up. It is our goal to make everyone we work with satisfied. Please, contact us. We do notfind a client with your name, and we have no one under contract in the Orlando area at this time. Again we apologize for your diaapointment. Just remember no one beleived in Elvis at first. He was told to go back to driving truck because he did not process "Star" qualities. Laredo MMT.
