I worked for the Movie gallery company for 3 years. I started on November 2006 and worked for them till October 2009 when they fired me for not selling enough Powerplay. I was the store Manager from January 2007 till October 2009. I put in about 50 to 60 hours a week without breaks cause there was not enough hours to schedule extra help. We got the program Powerplay about Feb or March of 2009. The customers had the choice of purchasing powerplay or not. It was an elective program, however Movie gallery started to threaten our jobs at the same time. Every day we would come in and have messages on our personal phones every hour asking us if we had sold any. It got to the point I didn't want to answer my phone. We were told that the customer could cancel the plan at any time, however if we did the customers were still getting charges on their cards even after they had been canceled. As the store manager I had a lot of complaints about this I refunded more money to customers because of this than anything. I would have done anything for them! In Sept of 09 I got told that if I wanted to keep my job I had to make the people sign up for this program. Don't get me wrong I liked the program but all the bugs and errors made me not want to sign people up cause they felt that they were getting ripped off. I brought my store in Sparta, WI from a ranking of 2000 to 529 in the company and that was when we had about 3300 stores. I went one week where I didn't sell one powerplay and they came in and fired me. However I found out the real reason that they did it was because the district manager at the time and my regional manager did not like me for personal reasons. I apparently was not Pretty enough to work for them. When I called the human resourse office I got told that that was zero tolerance however nothing happened to the managers even though several other stores had them visit and they said the dame things about me to them. I worked for this company and was dedicated to it. Now I am happy to report that they are having to CLOSE ALL THEIR STORES. This is a company that will harasse you and stress you out to the point of exaustion. So I say good riddance and good bye to movie gallery it was NOT fun knowing them.
