First part of October 2002 signed up for free trial with MSN via internet. Sent a cancellation notice last week October 2002, received acknowledgement of this cancellation stating cancellation confirmed by MSN, dates, initials, etc. (Saved this info in a special folder).

May 5, 2003 MSN billed my debit bank account for 21.95. Actual billing info said : Microsoft Online Svcs bill.ms.net WA. I disputed the claim, finally got my money back temporarily. Have tried to email MSN, can't do it. Have tried to go into MSN with the confirmation of cancellation, site moved, no such address., etc.etc. I kept AOL online all the time.

MSN decided to bill me 7 months later for something I never used. Their advertisement says you can cancel anytime before the trial period is over and never be billed, I cancelled right away and was billed "down the road" 7 months later for ???. I had to cancel my old AOL account and take my debit # off the computer, change credit cards, all because of a company that can't get its billing right. Now I know why others switch back or go to another company.

Ex Employee-Of the Cancellations Depart. ..MSN is aware of the BestBuy scam but..

#2UPDATE EX-employee responds

Mon, March 15, 2004

I have taken thousand of calls from MSN customers (Unhapy, Unaware, and Irate over fraudulant billing.) I worked Specifically in the Cancellations department and I honestly have to say that MS is treating their MSN Customers with the same care they put into their software. Here's what I know, MSN is aware of the BestBuy scam but , in an effort to save people and get cash were told in training not to lie to customers but mabey not let them know whole truths their not being clear either, they are leaving most of the contract up to customer assumptions. Now MSN are not the only one's reponsible for this- You should know that it's the Best Buy Employees signing you up for internet so they can get Bonuses (MSN Cant set up an account unless Best Buy Submits your info to them). These Best Buy accounts also come in an even more evil forms (The Term Commit Contract) When you go into Best Buy and buy anything on Credit Card or even Debit (if it has Debit Checking) and Best Buy signs you up for MSN Monthly Plan at $21.95 Month (Same Plan Avail for $15.95 just ask for it you'll get it). Now this "Best Buy Deal" has some bad concequences: Say you did the Best Buy Purchase (and this happens most of the time)the Best Buy Employee is told to tell you that to get $400.00 off no matter what you bought "You just have to sign up with MSN Internet", Now what your not being told is that they(Best Buy) is gonna sign you up with a 3 yr Term Commit Contract (TCC=YOU PAY NO MATTER WHAT for 3 years or pay 75% of $21.95 for 3 years or time remaining) See MSN aren't lying to you but you not being told the whole story, Now, Dont get me wrong im not bacing MSN Im just saying that this deal is way bigger. Like when I worked at Cancellations (Microsoft calls it Sales and Retention)-thats where they train us to Ignore your request to cancel and try and convince you to add additional services, Find that hard to believe check this out If you called me even in the MSN Center today and say I ignored your request to cancel(trained to) and attempted to sell you more stuff several things can happen you 1. Add additional services I get paid an extra 25cents per call for every person that i give stuff to, to keep them with MSN, 2.This one's good!!! Say you get pissed off at my sales pitch and Hang Up---well now the MSN Agent gets paid an additional 50 cents because you hung up without completing cancellation-so the MSN Agent get's a Bonus for saving you as a custome but never gave you anything, Option 3. You get pissed right off (But don't swear cause if ya do I can end the call and make 50 cents, I know 50cents? But when you take 1000's of calls those quarters add up.) so we remove the most recent charges max 3 months (Unless you ask for a Supervisor--And yes they will get you one)and close your account(?-well sometimes, as a matter of fact MS is cracking down on False Cancellations, One MSN Office "RMH-NS" was telling customers their accounts were closed but were actually leaving them open to make the 50 extra cents per call). Please remember YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO BE MAD. I know it's shady but Just for thought---Even at the CANCELLATIONS office Agents have to save Min 50% of their customers that are calling specifically to cancel. Blame whomever you want but this is the way Corp. Business Runs. And I myself have fallen victim as well. But, I will say Dell was doing a similar deal with MSN But when people started pressing charges against MSN we the agents were told to close those accts emmediately. Not because of the Cust charging MSN but because they charged dell who was signing them up, so Dell Corp. World turned up the heat on MS. Start hittin' the people giving out your info once Best Buy feels the sting MSN will too. It's the old s****.) I'll give you all the insides and pricing another day im too tired now!!! Peace Note: 9 chances out of 10 I did cancel for you, sorry bout the pitch tho.

For the last 3 months my credit card has been charged $21.95 for Microsoft online service Bill.MS.net WA. I have never subscribed to MS online. When I try to contact them on line, they request a Sign-in-name. I have no sign-in-name because I have never signed up. How do I stop this? Please help me. Carole Zeigler

You have to phone to cancel

Sent a cancellation notice? The only way to cancel a MSN account is via phone. It has been this way since at least August 2002 when I started working for MSN. It's in the subscriber agreement you agreed to when signing up and providing your credit card information. If you sent an email you were fooled by a hacker or you must be lying. Doing it over the phone ensures that all account info is verified and that cancellation of the proper account is verified. There is no better way to do it.
