Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
So this is the scam:

Myriad labs, working with a network of reps across the country, sell doctors on talking their female patients into having the BRAC test, to detect the possiblibilty of cancer in your family line. Granted, this is a noble calling, however, of course, this genetic test is patented, and Myriad is the ONLY lab in the country offering it.

The scam goes like this: Doctor says: I just a simple blood test. They will call you and tell you what you will have to pay, based on your insurance coverage. You can then decide if you want to have the test. (Have you seen the prominent TV commercials during the news hour, for the BRAC test?).

You sign a release form, that states, if your insurance company will not cover more than $375 dollars, you will be contacted by the lab to get permission to run the test. If your insurance company covers everything but $375 dollars, they run the test.

What they actually do is run the test, then send the bill to the insurance company. In my case, the insurance company sent me a bill for $600+ dollars. I called Myriad labs, and they immediately agreed to reduce the bill to the $375 dollar threshold.

That sounded a bit decetive to me. So I complained. They pointed to the release form I signed. I then complained to the SLC BBB. Not more than 5 days later, Myrid called and forgave the $375 balance. They even cut me a check for the amount that I had paid toward the balance I owed.

Sounds like fraud to me. And a very deceptive business practice. Any lawyer out there could make a mint from this. I am sure that thousands of people have been had for hundreds of thousands of dollars from this scam.

Hi, my name is Aaron and I'm the patient accounts billing manager at Myriad Genetic Laboratories.  I want to clarify our billing policy to prevent any further miscommunication about what we do here at Myriad.  At Myriad, patients are our top priority. We are dedicated to improving patients quality of life by offering tests that provide important clinical information to assist patients and their healthcare providers in making treatment decisions. We are continuously innovating to improve patient care through the development of new products across multiple medical specialties. Every day, Myriad is working to empower patients and their healthcare providers with the knowledge to own their healthcare.

When one of our tests is ordered for you, we will work with your insurance provider to help you get the appropriate coverage allowed by your plan. If your out of pocket expense will exceed $375, we will call you before processing your test to discuss payment plan options that are available to you. We wont call if your bill will be less than $375, but if you have concerns about your bill, you can contact us directly and we guarantee that we will work with you to come up with an option thats right for you.

We are committed to make sure that test results are accurate, timely, and financially accessible to everyone.  What does this mean for you? When your doctor feels you should have genetic testing to help you get the best possible care, you can proceed right away, feeling confident that the costs will be manageable. No surprises. If your bill will be more than $375, well call. You can work with us to come up with a payment plan that meets your needs.

Q. How do I know if my health insurance will cover hereditary cancer testing? I dont even know where to start.

A. Most insurance carriers cover genetic testing services for hereditary cancer. In fact, although each situation is unique, the average patient pays coinsurance of less than 10% of the test price. We work directly with your insurance provider to get reimbursement for the genetic tests we offer. We have significant experience navigating the reimbursement issues that may be important to you.

Q. What kinds of payment plans do you offer?

A. If you happen to receive a bill from Myriad, we are extremely flexible. We routinely offer an interest-free 25 month payment plan when your co-insurance, deductible, or non-covered services will cost $375 or more. (Thats roughly $15 per month, with zero interest.) Our friendly staff will happily find a way to make the payments work for you.

Q. What if I dont have any health insurance at all?

A. You can pay for the testing service yourself. If needed, we can set you up on an installment payment plan that is practical for you.

We can even offer testing at no charge to uninsured patients who meet specific financial and medical criteria. (Due to regulatory limitations, patients who are recipients of government-funded programs like Medicaid and Medicare, or those that have any third party insurance are not eligible to apply.)

I read a report of myriad labs titled Myriad Labs, Myriad Genetics These people use deceptive practices to fleece you of your money Salt Lake City Utah

This exact thing happened to me as well almost verbatim.  I complained about the extreme cost deception to my gynecologist as well as to myriad labs.

Very deceptive practice

Consumers are not clearly informed of the extreme costs of this elective genetic testing and borders on fraud

I'll never recommend myriad labs...........ever!
