Jeff, I understand your frustration, however you have to understand that if there was an outstanding check/visa check card transaction/ACH debit presented 30 days after close of your account, you will be charged NSF or overdraft fees. When NatCity closes an account it goes into a "pending" close status for 30 days. I doubt you were doing anything illegal and just forgot about the check from Dec 5th...however, we can't allow Joe Schmoe to write thousands of dollars worth of checks on Dec 28th then turn around and close his account on Dec 29th and not expect recourse. Again, I doubt this was your intention, however these are the guidelines you were given in the handbook at the time you opened your account. Whatever you do, you will need to take care of those charges because NatCity will charge off your account and report you to CheckSystems and you will have a difficult time getting an account anywhere else. Chalk it up to a learning experience and read the fine print in the future.

So it's a single-wide, right? Near I-75 and 9 Mile Road? You still haven't admitted you didn't disclose to the bank that you wrote a check which didn't clear at the time you closed your account.

When you went to the bank to close the account, it's obvious you didn't tell them one of your checks still hadn't cleared. So is the bank supposed to eat that amount? I'm sure tney asked you if you had any outstanding checks, didn't they? Both the amount of the check and the NSF fee are your responsibility. If you don't clear this up, don't be surprised when law enforcement knocks on your door with a warrant for your arrest. Of course by that time, they may not know which double-wide you're hiding out in and it may take more than one attempt!
