Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

We moved out of our condo on great terms, we were always paid a month in advance through our entire lease and after buying a home we were waiting on our final bill. Well we never recieved one. We then got a call from Bette and she told us she was calling to collect a debt from our condo "since we didn't know how to pay our bills" I looked at my wife and said wow I am not goin to be able to talk to this woman for she was so disrespectful from the start. So my wife put her on speaker and let the woman know she was my wife and she would happily take care of the bill and that we were actually just waiting for our final bill and never recieved it. This Bette said excuse me but our not on the lease so I will not speak I you, so I stated I am also listening due to her being on speaker phone and Bette then again stated "what's the matter you stand on your own two feet?!" I was again in shock and at this point irate and I said just who do you think your talking to like that? And she said again "what? Ou can't stand on your own two feet?" I said lady your not goin to" and that's as far as I got when Bette chimed in and said "I don't have to listen to you I'm putting this on your credit!" "Did you hear me? (Laughed) I'm putting this on your credit for 7 years" all we heard then was the click of the phone being hung up. I have called several times trying to get this off my credit and there is no one else who runs this scam of a creditor but Bette Langley so of course she doesn't call me back or answer my calls. i have amazing credit till this nasty woman who doesn't obviously like l*****n couples being she's from Texas and thinks she can treat us like scum! Iv filed multiple complaints in which no one has gotten a call back from this woman and also contacted my attorney and given him this woman's recording, because yes if you calle and record the conversation I am also recording on my end. So I have all this nastiness recorded and she has a PO box so that no one can even get in touch and serve her papers. Imagine that! We will continue to find this woman so that she doesn't pull a power trip on someone else and ruine there credit over her own beliefs!

The short version of my story is that in 2009 I rented a small apartment for $735/month with a 1 year lease. Admittedly, we did leave the lease early but gave 2 months notice and left the apartment in better shape than we got it. We never heard from the landlord so we figured since they were a bit shady anyway they planned to keep our deposit, which wasn't exactly legal because the place rented right away. But it was only a small amount of money and would've cost us more trying to get it back than it was worth, so we let it go. Bad move, clearly. Six years later we pull our credit in preparation to buy a home and find a very recent collection reported for nearly $13k! Then, because we are preparing

to buy a home and recently pulled our credit with our current address, we get a random letter as if they had been sending them for months saying they've offered us several options for payments and we have declined to take any of them. We immediately went to work researching landlord tenant law in the state we had that lease, collection laws (which I was fairly familiar with anyway because of an old job) and serious research on NCAC, including the man who signed the letter I received. I also found the name, phone number, current address and approximate move in date of the next tenant of that apartment. When I called the first time I was transferred to some wretched hag who informed me the

total was the remainder of the lease (she claimed 7 months but was actually 5), which is actually illegal in that state, plus cleaning fees and interest for the last 6 years (also illegal in the absence of a judgement which did not exist) but she would be willing to waive the interest if I paid the principal in a lump sum that day. I told her I would pay no part of a bogus debt so she hung up on me immediately. I called back immediately, gave my name, and demanded to speak with a manager. They transferred me to Mike Davis who was the person who signed the letter they sent me. I explained the situation to him and he was actually quite reasonable. He even told me a couple of things I didn't know about the

landlord tenant law. I'm not sure how the conversation would've gone had a called refusing to pay an entirely valid (or even partly valid) debt, but given the obviously invalid nature of this particular debt, he was exceptionally reasonable and told me that he would submit a request to the credit bureaus to have the report removed. Before the end of business that day I had an email with confirmation numbers for those requests and his direct phone number and email in case I have any other questions or concerns. What I'm saying is, gather your facts and go into the conversation well armed! Know the recording laws in your state. Not every state requires that both parties be aware, if your state is one of them,

take advantage of that!. If they treat you badly, take action! And if someone treats you poorly, keep calling back until you reach someone high enough up to do something about it! Regardless of whether your debt is or isn't valid, treating people poorly is no way to get people to pay anything!
