Last summer, July 2008, we planned our move from California to Colorado. North American Movers Inc. was among the group of companies that we requested estimates from. Their estimate fit our budget and we scheduled them for our moving service. They made all of the verbal and email assurances that they would provide excellent service in the move.

They were 2 days late getting to our California address which made us 2 days late in arriving to our Colorado destinaton. We had to pay twice as much as agreed upon originally to move. We were in a pushed time frame to pack and leave and to arrive at our Colorado address.

Our furniture did not arrive for over a week. They were 2-3 days late in delivering our belongings.

Numerous items were broken and damaged in the move. I contacted the company and was assured that the insurance would cover the damages. I filed a claim within the designated time frame and sent it via certified mail. It has been since March 2009 since I last spoke with the company representative. I am unable to contact the moving company. There is no answer on the telephone there at this time.

On another issue, the driver kept a key that opened an antique armoire and he promoised to mail it to me. There had been numerous conversations via the telephone with the driver regarding the key so we could open the armoire that contained bedding. He told conflicting stories. The key was substantial, antique brass about 4 to 5 inches long and 2 to 3 inches wide at the top and a barrel key with a specific end to open the lock.

The staff at the North American Movers acquired the key for me from the driver in October 2008. I requested by phone and email that the key be a sent in a padded envelope and that I would pay for the postage and envelope. I knew the key would not process via regular mail envelopes. I pleaded with them to allow me to pay for the key to be mailed so that it would not be lost.

This is confirmed via email as well.

All email correspondences have been saved that were sent and received to this company since we first contacted them.

Subsequently my request was ignored and I did recieve a ripped open at the end envelope without the key. The North American Movers Company staff sent it in a regular white paper envelope. I have spent numerous hours with the postal service in California and their department that handles lost items retrieved. They have never found my key which is not replaceable. The postal service stated this was improperly mailed in this type envelope is why I offered to pay for the mailing and postage service.

I have attempted to contact this company regarding the claim status and have not been sucessful in reaching anyone at the telephone number listed for this company. It has now been nearly a year. I have a broken china cabinet that the movers dropped coming off of the truck. I have numerous damaged pieces of furniture. I have photos to support the damages that were done to our belongings entrusted to North American Movers.

My husband and I spent $40.00 buying the movers Kosher foods for lunch since they were on a religious diet on the day they loaded our truck in California.
