I purchased a cruise for $3600.00 from the NCL website. I called and paid the $600.00 deposit. After the transaction was made and the deposit was given, they raised the price of the cruise by $119.00. When I called and inquired, they told me that they did not charge enough initially and they wanted to add $119.00 on top of the $119.00 they just added. After 2 more days of getting nowhere, I cancelled the cruise. However, they told me that they would not reverse the deposit or credit my credit card for "at least 2 weeks". I have supporting documentation proving this bait and switch tactic.

ALL TRU (bad) about NCL

Just to advise.... NCL doesn't give a d**n about your complaints if it cost's them even 1 red PENNY to resolve it. They are even as cheap and insensitive to their employees as they are to their customers... I've had to carry out all their insensitive policies/actions as a "former" employee, until I realized they will NOT change, so I left.... If you book cruises with travel agents you "SOMETIMES" can get a better price(MO0STLY)thru large, Major travel Companies...HOWEVER... if you book through the large online agencies the savings is often not worth the lack of customer service they don't give you once they have your money...and you cannot call the Cruise Line directly to try to resolve any issues, because ONLY the travel agency can do this for you- and... you must be able to figure out the rest here....NCL just plain sucks.... there is no question about-- just read all the complaints here... they are true....DO NOT CRUISE ON NCL

Not A Fuel Surcharge

Hi Annie, No, it was not a surcharge. I was told that they did not charge enough for the pre-cruise hotel stay, so they tacked on $119.00 and wanted to charge me an additional $119.00 because it still wasn't enough! From what I understand about contracts, once both parties agree to a price, and payment is made, it is a binding contract. I have cruised with Royal Caribbean, Princess and now Celebrity (all online bookings) and never had a problem. I checked the Better Business Bureau after this incident and found that NCL has many unresolved complaints against them whereas RCCL and Celebrity have few, if any. While it would have been nice to cruise the Hawaiian Islands, my wife and I have decided to fly to Hawaii and Island hop. We have booked our next cruise (to Alaska) with Celebrity.

Was The Increase Perhaps for a Fuel Surcharge?

#4Consumer Suggestion

Gary, Is it possible that the $119 additional charge for your cruise was for a fuel surcharge? If so, the increase is pretty standard in times of rising fuels costs. I was a travel agent for 18 some odd years...all through travel deregulation and fuel shortages of the 70s. Fuel surcharges for all travel companies, not just cruise companies, were standard. We experienced it daily with charter companies, cruise companies, even airlines. And as for Reece, please realize that there is some self interest in such a post that advertises to use a travel agent or cruise consultant. Travel companies did away with paying commissions to travel partners about 10 some years ago, which means that travel consultants are no longer compensated by the travel companies they represent and rely on charging their own fees on top of vendor costs in order to stay in business.

As a cruise consultant I have a word to the wise for all consumers. "Do not purchase a cruise directly from a cruiseline"!!!! Number one reason you will pay more than through a cruise seller Number 2- You have no one to fight for you when the cruiseline screws up!!! Take my advice & book your cruises through a cruise or travel agent! Thanks Reece Oslinker Smooth Sailing Cruises PA
