I am also finding that economic class is not a big consideration, I discovered a suit in which a farmer put a home in for his hired hand. They went after his land using the home. Oakwood had appealled the ruling up to the State Supreme Court(NM or Okla, I don't remember). That costs a lot of money. How much of a profit would they have gained after attorney fees? I once considered filing against them in a small claims court. While looking for an attorney to represent us in a Civil Action, I discovered that Oakwood/Vanderbilt is a client of all the big law firms in the States where I checked. Heres the best part. They are board members of the Housing and Urban Development in many states. Ok. There is the summery of all the bad news. The good news: There is still much you can do. 1st. Copy and organize your files. You'll need mutilple copies I ended up using 7 or 8. Never send your originals, keep them for you. 2nd. Create a cover letter that briefly summerizes everything contained in those files. You must add a sentance where you ask for help and grant permission to use the information you are sending and to gather more info where needed. Because of privacy laws. No state or federal agency can interviene on your behalf without that. 3rd. Send it to your state attorney generals office. (I printed out thier complaint form and sent that also. Where it asks to describe the complaint. I wrote "see attached cover letter"). Send it to Vanderbilts home state of Tennessee and Oakwoods home state's Attorney General's Office. You must know, the only one who did any thing for us was Tennesssee. But that was ELECTIONS ago. There may be new staff now. 4th. Because I did my cover letter on the computer, I copied it and pasted it to the dispute forms for all three credit reporting agencies. The only one who did not change our credit report was the one in Texas. A few months later I had a copy of the Tennessee's Attorney General's letter sent to them. Remember, every time there is an inquirey on your credit report it lowers your score. It is best not to have inquiries more than 1 or 2 times a year. Impossible while trying to fix an error. During our experience I tried not to check/fix our reports more than once a month. 5th. Be wary of the Attorney's, So eager was I to find one that I nearly got ripped off a couple of times. One wanted $10,000 to investigate and give his OPINOIN on whether or not we had a case, not to actually file and represent us. I have heard of others who have found attorneys sued and won. It is not impossible, and I recommend that you do. If your real lucky, have him contact the editor of this sight. He will put the attorney in touch with all of us if their is any kind of a case against Vanderbilt or Berkshire Hathaway. Many of us would be willing to share the cost of Attorney fees. I know I would. However, don't wait to file your complaints until you find one, that will only make the situation worse. 6th Don't forget to send copies to the Federal Trade Commission and perhaps your state Senator. I know that Fort Riley/Junction City has gotten alot of media attention for pay day lending and other scams.
