Yes, that is what should have happened but didn't...read the paragraph again.... "The store manager called me and apologized for the problem and offered me the gift card for free! Said that this is a training problem , and they should have """deducted the $40 gift card from the total once they had scanned the item.""""

If you look at the recipt you will see the printer was 40 dollers cheaper then you thought it was because they cant just give you a free card they charge you for the card then deduct it from the item.

I went back to the store the next day and went to customer service. It seems that this is a problem that they have, when an item cannot be scanned they use the gift cards to ring up the item, then the gift card is supposed to be deducted at that time. The store manager called me and apologized for the problem and offered me the gift card for free!Said that this is a training problem , and they should have deducted the $40 gift card from the total once they had scanned the item. Was very nice about it all. Problem solved.

It sounds like they put the "free" $40 gift card onto your bill, which is a ripoff. But what I an wondering, is the fact that: "the store was very busy, the line was long, I had been shopping all day and was very tired, I am a member of AARP and over the age of 50, have to do with anything else. Just wondering why that was thrown in. It sounds like you have a valid complaint. Don't muck it up. Two suggestions. One, look at the receipt before you leave the store. Two, go right back to the store as soon as you notice the problem, ask to speak to a manager and have him issue you a credit and get a copy of the refund/credit. Keep a copy for future reference. It's more difficult after you've paid the bill. You end up with a credit on your card.
