Drivercure from Paretologic downloaded on its own setting up a program file.  Now it continually pops up everytime I go online claiming to have found multiple driver errors and wanting me to download the software.  But its already been downloaded in my program files - just not installed.  I have tried to remove it using the uninstall function in the control panel (suggested by one of the paretologic reps) but it blocks the uninstall function and stops the process by opening a web page offering some discount from paretologic.  With the webpage open the program is in use and the uninstall function aborts.  Oh, and you cannot close the webpage!

Drivercure has its own uninstall routine in the program file but theres no way im going to run that!! No telling what other malware it will unleash.  I have run spybot but it will not pick up the drivercure as a virus. I guess paretologic has done a great job of concealing this affliction in the computers files.  They act like they cant believe this is happening but even if someone else is generating this virus under their name they should have addressed it by now and put something out to block the problem or provide the ability to remove it from an infected computer because their directions to use the standard uninstall function are false.  So I've got to find some other way to get this off my computer.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Laura.  I'm sure as a company liaison you truly believe in your product and it may well be that the actual application works great.  But this "Free Scan" your company puts out has been deliberately constructed in such a way as to embed itself in the host computer and actively prevent removal.  I ended up hiring a computer professional to remove this thing and now have it off my machine.  He agreed that it actively resisted removal and required steps well beyond simply running the Microsoft Uninstall utility.

The point is that when your "antivirus" software is purposely designed to download without permission, embed itself in the host computer, obstruct the use of that computer and prevent ready removal of itself, then it becomes the virus.

I would encourage you to talk to your management to get your programmers to take this pernicious item off the web.  Providing a free scan is fine, just dont create headaches for your potential customers.  It only results in bad press and lost business.

Kind Regards;  Gary
