Park West Galleries is not an auction company in the traditional sense. Traditional auction houses take their art in by consignment: people, galleries, or art dealers give them art to auction hoping for a good price. Park West Galleries signs their artists to contracts and the artist then produces artwork for them exclusively. Park West Galleries publishes and owns the artwork they sell. When they run their "auctions", they always start the bidding at the lowest price they can live with and still make a good profit. So they are not like consignment auctions.
Appraisals: A true art appraisal must come from an independent credentialed appraiser who is not affiliated with the seller of the art. An "appraisal" by the auction house, gallery, or art dealer that sells the art is just what they believe the artwork should sell for, and not what it may actually sell for at an independent auction.
