PC Bug Repair is a rip-off - wife using machine and suddenly locked-up with this virus/bug/worm whatever it was.  She got a pop-up that she thought was a security company trying help and paid with my debit card.  Similar story as others here - they took our $79.95 - but in her case she did not even get relief - the thing kept locking her computer up.  I got into the details and could not identify the 'company' as legit and realized she'd been scammed into thinking she was 'renewing' her security service (McAfee - just expired days before...) to rid her machine of the bug.

It took another $129 to get Dell to spend 2 1/2 hours getting this thing off her machine and I was able to renew her McAfee license (soon switching to Norton, thanks...) and get it loaded before 'PC Bug Repair' could strike again.  Also immediately contacted bank by telephone and got the debit card canceled and verbally reported the issue, but 'PC Bug Repair Com Lakewood NJ' had already put a 'pre-authorised hold' on an amount of $79.95 until 11-26-2010.  This had disappeared by 11-27-2010 after I had spoken to bank on 11-24-2010 and no charge was made at first so thought I might be safe.  Then tonight (11-29-2010) a 'withdrawal' of $79.95 suddenly appeared - with a date of 11-24-2010 (would kind of like bank to explain that little maneuver...).  No name of 'withdrawer' appeared but it can be none other than 'PC Bug Repair' - very clever.

Now in process of filliing out administrivia form for bank to TRY to get money back but there's no known contact info that makes any sense.  One web site (http://www.dedicatedornot.com/sites/pc-bug-repair.com) identifies a 'shared' server in Bellevue WA at IP address of: 64.74.223.44 for this outfit.  The only other clue we had as to 'whereabouts' was the 'Lakewood NJ' that first appeared in the 'pre-authorized hold' info - and then disappeared; now nothing shows in electronic bank account record except 'withdrawal' - of $79.95.

Don't know if can get money back but trying, and I'd say stupid us except that this thing takes over your machine and my wife was understandably upset - and thought the 'helpful' pop-up was legit; I let her use the card so she could renew 'that security system on my laptop' (she thought it was McAfee apparently).  What a fraud - clever crooks.  Bellevue and Lakewood tell us little - these crooks could be anywhere and working through that server and a fee collecting firm of some sort (I'm sure I've seen 'Lakewood' before for legit payments - must be some sort of a web-automated money receiver).  Not likely, but I'd like to find out that they've been tracked down, shot with feces and thrown in jail for stinking - on top of being made to refund everyone they have ripped off by now.
