I am currently a gunsmithing student and the colorado school of trades college. Before enrolling here I did the PCDI gunsmithing course. IT is very misleading and does not teach proper gunsmithing.

True gunsmithing includes the use of lathes, mills, welding, and precision tools. PCDI states the majority of gunsmithing is just exchanging parts, however they don't tell you that there are certain tolerances to follow. For example just putting a new barrel on a rifle without checking headspace (even if its only .002 of an inch off) can make the gun explode.

Also they do not teach you how to diagnose a problem with a firearm. There method is just take it apart and switch parts out until the gun works. They dont tell you about heat treats, maximum chamber presures, or even proper cleaning of firearms.

When I first Joined they said I would be a profesional gunsmith when I graduated I learned no gunsmithing shops would hire any graduate of any corespondence course. Hopefully no one has been killed because of their course and it would be wise for PCDI to discontinue this course before they get the crap sued outta them by a grieving family because of what they teach.
