Complaint Review: Pennon Inc. - East Moline Illinois

Well, recently I just moved out of the McKinley Hill Apts. in East Moline aka Pennon Inc.

I would like to tell you why I left! That place has to be one of the most run down, awful places I have ever seen in my life or lived in! They lie about doing back ground checks on people, there is no way that they are doing any kind of background checks! Although there are about 4 good tenants that do not bother anyone there, the rest out of 14 apartments are horrible! There has been gang activity escalating there, drug dealing goes on in the parking lot all of the time, several residents are extremely loud and or fighting constantly there, there was even a man a while ago before I left that was beat down there by at least 15 people in the hallway! This is no place for anyone to live and I feel sorry for the good 4 families that are there that have no where else to go and have to put up with that crap! I personally have never seen a more unmanaged place in my life and the manager is even there during the daytime hours! There have been cars vandalized there and management is aware of who did the damages and nothing was done. The people involved in the drugs and gang activity there, are still to date, allowed to live there...from what I could tell all that the landlord and their staff there care about is getting their monthly rent because they obviously do not care about the safety of the other residents that are not causing trouble and they allow crime to take place on their property, and the building is in horrible disrepair! The roof leaks all over the building including into people's apartments, the fire extinguishers that were there have been long since stolen and none put back to replace them, and the ground are muddy, have garbage all over the place and it is just a pig sty!!!

What is even worse yet is the fact that law enforcement is aware of the problems here from resident complaints but nothing is done!

I hope anyone who reads this will NEVER rent from any of the Pennon, Inc. properties! They are crime ridden, roach infested, disrepaired, slums and the landlord is a joke!

BEWARE AND DO NOT RENT HERE!

I don't understand why anyone would be afraid to be evicted. Is there no other choice? If smoke alarms and fire extinguishers are inoperative, call the fire department since your building inspector (probably getting kickbacks) won't help. The health department would be your next call for the mold. Write letters to your state representive. Anything would be better than continuing your existence in that place. By the way, a registered sex offender does not mean he/she is a pedophile.

Pennon Inc. places ads in the newspaper stating that this is what they offer you upon move in...after this is written, I will tell you the truth of the matter. When you see their ads in the paper for one of their properties, you are told that you will get FREE DISH and FREE DSL internet...that is completely false advertising. You have to pay a $100 deposit on the box and when you do that, yes it is free, but there are some problems with that too. There are many times when the DISH goes out for days at a time and it is not properly taken care of, then we have the DSL that was not even properly wired by DISH, it was wired by maintenance and since it was not done properly, it rarely works properly. They do not even have land line ports for your telephone to be plugged into so you never get any phone service there unless your one of the lucky one's that had a jack in your unit. There is free heat, that is if its working. Most of the units for a few years now have not had heat regulators in their units, therefore when you do get heat in the winter, which is not often, you can not even control it and since it is boiler heat, sometimes the heat soars on the upwards of 100+ on your unit making it unbearable to sleep. There are leaks all over the apartment building since they still have done absolutely nothing to fix the roof, now there is black mold growing in the ceilings and around some doorways and the gym is not even in good repair because the entire roof leaks all over the floor, and therefore, (another thing they falsely advertise), you do not have access to the gym because it leaks too much and when you could use it, they have junk from previous tenants strewn all over the gym which they later sell at yard sales. These are personal belongings that people had in their apartments that since they could not pay their bills in full upon moveout, they had their stuff removed from their units, sometimes before they even had 30 days to get out after being served an eviction. There are no working smoke alarms in the hallways of the unit (at the McKinley Hill site) and the fire extinguishers have either been removed or stolen and not replaced. In the laundry room, they have 3 washers and 3 dryers, 2 of which work. They never fix the machines that are in disrepair, they just go unfixed and sit there doing nothing for the tenants. The parking lots are also in disrepair, they have horrible holes in the street that lead to the enterance of each of the lots, (at McKinley again), people's cars have been damaged due to the fact they do not fix the lots. They also tell you that they back ground check people yet when I went online one time, after being told people were being checked, there was a registered sex offender living right next door to me, which I specifically asked would not be around here since kids do come to my home which are family and I did not want to jeopardize their safety, there are also other people living here that abuse alcohol and get into fights in the halls or on the property and there have been incidents of people being abused here inside some of the residents yet they are continued to be allowed to reside here. So many people move in here because its a last resort, but there should be no reason that anyone has to live in substandard conditions.
