Dear Friends, Neighboors, Acquaintances, and Co-workers

Looking at the picture below, would you believe your looking at the underside of our brand new Ford Escort!

The picture will need to be sent separately

Just 1 of many pictures of our new car

Well it is. Mary and I purchased a new 2001 Ford Escort ZX2 from Phil Long at Chapel Hills on 30 April 2001. The car was transferred to Colorado Springs from the Denver store sight unseen and it was not available for pick up until 9:30 PM. In the dark, everything looked fine. After all, it was a brand new car!

The next morning we discovered that our new car had either been abused or in an accident. We immeadiately contacted Duane Williams (our salesman) at Phil Long Ford and expressed our concern. Duane blew us off.

Ford Motor Company, Phil Long Ford, the Colorado Attorney General, the Motor Vehicle Division, the Dealers Board, and the BBB were all contacted and offered no help! We were up a creek without a paddle or had a flat without a spare. Another words, we were at the mercy of Ford. We had the car inspected by an independent business and they confirmed our fears, the car was full of mud from front to back and side to side, it had been bottomed out, and had a number of under body scrapes and dents. This did not persuade Ford Motor Company or Phil Long Ford to make good on the deal so as a last resort we placed a stop payment on our down payment. This finally got their attention. We are thankful that their finance department was slow in cashing our check.

Security Federal CU financed our new car. When contacted about our problem, they also told us there was nothing they could do in our behalf. Again, no help. Now nearly three months have passed, we are still without a car, Phil Long Ford has the vehicle but we are still making loan and insurance payments.

Gene Holmes, the sales manager for Phil Long told me it was a mental thing and the damage wasn't that bad! He also said they (Phil Long Ford) have more lawyers, time and money then we do and that they have never lost a court case yet. They plan to prove it. Friday, I was notified by the BBB that we are being sued by Phil Long Ford.

I may not be able to fight Ford Motor Company and Phil Long Ford much longer but with your help I hope to get their attention and that of the newspapers, TV and Radio stations.

I am not asking for any money or contributions, what I am asking for is your support in a Call, Mail, Fax, and Email campaign. A chain letter of sorts. Please tell Phil Long and Ford you heard about our case. The power of the people, media, press and Internet should be enough to get their attention and with your support I hope to close this case, have our contract cancelled and payments refunded.

Also I hope you remember my problem when you get ready to purchase your next car from one of the many Phil Long Dealerships in Colorado Springs. The Phil Long Dealerships in Colorado Springs include: Ford, Saturn, Jeep, Plymouth, Chrysler, Suzuki, Kia, Hyundai, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. A trip to Denver could save you the grief we are experiencing now.

I was the salesman involved with the Arsenault deal and he is only telling part of the story.I met with Ed three times, (once at his house) to discuss and try and resolve the problem. I even had the car put up on a lift and personally looked under the car with a service technition to try and spot any "damage." I never found anything wrong besides mud and a scraped tailpipe. I also made two proposals to the Arsenaults on how to resolve the problem. 1) We would provide them with a different new vehicle, the only difference being the type of wheels (there were none in the state of Colorado that matched the first one exactly). 2)We would refund their money minus the first payment (approximately $220.) The Arsenaults rejected all offers, wanting us to give them another $2000. off the price of the car I also set up meetings with our general manager and one of the partners of Phil Long. I feel I tied to address the probim through multiple channels and the Arsenaults were being completely unreasonable.
