Pilsen Group Realty No heat during a cold Chicago winter Chicago Illinois
I moved into a really yucky little apartment on 17th Street in Pilsen in August of 2005. It was managed (not owned by) Pilsen Group Realty. Being a naive kid from farm community, I had no idea about the neighborhood and was misled by PGR into thinking it was a safe place for my child and me to live.
It was absolutely not safe by any means--both my car and the unit were broken into within a couple of months. The building was completely infested with roaches and illegal immigrants. To top it off, there was NO HEAT at all. The heating unit was broken and despite many calls to get it fixed, nobody ever came to fix it.
I had to send my child to live with relatives because it was too cold in the unit so I stopped paying rent to get the matter dealt with. PGR tried to legally evict me!! 5 months it went like that. The judge ended up not ordering me to pay anything and let me move out WAY before my lease was up. Then they kept my security deposit! Do NOT rent from these people. They are slumlords.
