The statements made in the initial rip-off report are factually accurate and true. PM MacKay does not pay its workers as promised, and paychecks routinely bounce. Clients wait for extended periods of time, in some cases weeks, for work to be completed.
The "life-long friendship" between me and the project manager that was cited in the owner's rebuttal consists of:
a three-month stint working for the project manager in 1984 - 28 years ago - when he was a contractor;
a five-month "tour of duty" in 2012 that was a result of running into him in Home Depot.
In between the two jobs, I did not stay in touch with the project manager.
This is not the only complaint about PM MacKay that is listed on the web. Check www.topix.com and read the unflattering reviews. Home Depot is aware of PM MacKay's client delay tactics, which is company standard operating procedure. There are many other reputable contractors out there. A bit of research will serve you well. You have a choice!

We regret that we could not come to amicable terms with "B"
He was a subcontractor that we were utilizing as a kitchen installer. He was also a lifelong friend of the project manager that he was working under.
It wasn't until we started registering multiple complaints, that we realized that this individual did not have the
Skills to install kitchen cabinets to our standards.
By the time this was discovered, we were forced to go back in and repair these deficits on multiple kitchens.
The cost to us was 4 times more than the balance that he claimed was due to him on the final project that we terminated him from.
His wife threatened to do this, if we didn't pay the balance.
We offered to let him walk away quietly without taking him to court for the cost to correct all these projects.
The lesson learned, is don't allow a project manager to hire his friends.
Business is business.
Although this subcontractor was more than willing to name names along with claiming to be an employee when he was in fact a registered and independently insured subcontractor, we will not go down that path, and we will not name him, so that he might still be able to work in the marketplace. We would discourage him from participating in the kitchen installation market in the future.
