Portfolio Recovery, Portfolio RC Trying to collect on bogus account, if true I was a minor. Norfolk Virginia
I began receiving sporadic mailings from this companies years ago, and finally contacted them when I saw they began inquiring on my credit report. They told me they are trying to collect on a medical account. They wont tell me for what or the date(s) of treatment. How convenient that because its medical they don't have any specific information about it except for the name of the company they bought the debt from (which I don't recognize). However, I was able to glean that the last date of payment on the account was in 2001. I was about 16 and pointed that out to them. If its true, how can they collect from a minor? I was "transferred" to their dispute department, where I have been on hold for about an hour. They have been lighting up my credit report up with inquiries (how many do they need to do?) and TransUnion won't remove them without Portfolio's ok. Portfolio keeps giving me the run around (still on hold). What should I do? Do I need to hire a lawyer? How much will it cost me to fix their error?
