Let me start by saying that I am a fan of Priceline, and use them frequently. I know how they work and have no issues with their usual stance of "no refunds, changes, etc". However, I feel my situation may warrant some consideration.

I booked 4 hotel rooms in Orlando, FL for the night of 9/11/04. Myself and some colleagues were going to attend a convention at the Orlando Convention Center. For those of you who may live in a cave without the benefit of news, the Orlando area has been hit by TWO!! hurricanes in the last 3 weeks. Because of this, the show organizers decided to move the show to mid-October.

I contacted Priceline to see if, given the situation, there was anything that they could do. I told them I don't want a refund, I just want to reuse the rooms on a different date. I even offered to pay a reasonable change fee. I even called the hotel who agreed NOT to charge Priceline for the rooms that night. Priceline has nothing to lose here! I let Priceline know of this.

My pleadings fell on deaf ears, of course. They did go so far as to tell me that if it had been the previous weekend I could have gotten some sort of credit. They also told me that if another hurricane hits FL before the weekend I may have a chance. So the only recourse I have with Priceline may be if Hurricane Ivan makes it here before the weekend.

Priceline, give me a break here! Surely you can make exceptions when it comes to forces beyond anyone's control! You won't even lose money here. You can even make addditional money if you charge me a reasonable change fee! Help a fellow out, Priceline!

Priceline Miracles happen!

Miracle of miracles --- Priceline refunded my money! I called every day checking to see if they would do anything for me. Finally, today I pleaded my case once more with someone who agreed to transfer me somewhere else. This second person, Paula was her name, got on the phone to the hotel. She got back on line with me a few minutes later and said that since the hotel had cancelled the reservation, and because this was the result of the hurricanes, then Priceline would refund my money. I got the following email after my phone conversation: "A refund in the amount of $146.84 will be placed on the credit card you provided to us upon submitting your request. Please also be aware that your hotel reservation has been cancelled with the hotel property. Your refund will be posted by your credit card company within the next 10 business days. Please remember, this refund has been a one-time exception and priceline reservations cannot be cancelled, changed or refunded in the future. Thank you, priceline.com Customer Service"
