I had been looking for a credit card, and having no luck, as I am a student just starting out and have no credit.

I received a phone call, offering me an unsecured Mastercard with a $1000 credit limit and a relatively low interest rate, considering the fact that, as I said, I had no credit. They said they just needed a $187 enrollment fee up front.

At first, I was skeptical, but I asked for a phone number to call them back at, and the agent gave me a customer service number, 416.542.1611. I called them back, and since the company seemed legit, I figured, what the hell.

I gave them my checking account number and authorized them to make the withdrawal on February 25, 2003. The agent's name was Bob and his Agent ID was 835. Then the agent who called back to verify my information was John. (not real names, I'm sure). They gave me my customer ID number, #4817 (look at other rip-off reports, they gave others the same exact number!!).

On February 23rd, I changed my mind about the card, and called their customer service number at approx. 4:30 to cancel the withdrawal. They were closed for the day already. I called back the next day, at approx. 4:05, and when I finally waited through the annoying hold music and made my request, their only response was to hang up on me. I tried to contact my bank to block the transaction, but the bank was closed by that time.

Since then, I have had nothing but problems. I filed paperwork at the bank to reverse and dispute the charge, and I also filed a report with the local police department, as the bank requested that I do so as part of their paperwork.

I hope this report can help keep other people from being swindled by these crooks.
