I cancelled by cellular service with Primeco back in November of 2001, or so I thought, because I started traveling and the Primeco service and phone I had did not allow out-of-area calls unless you pay $200+ for a Primeco tri-mode phone and pay for roaming, which they do not offer.

I called in April of 2002 to see if I could reactivate service for my brother. I was told that the number I had was being used by someone else, but they could reactive the phone with a new number after I pay the accrued phone charges from the past few months. I was outraged to here this and knew they had made a mistake because the phone was cancelled. The service rep had the nerve to say "OK, OK, I would waved some $50 of the charges but you still have to pay the remaining balance". I was not going to pay anything because first of all, I was a prepay customer, second, I was not under any contract and third, the account was cancelled in November with no balance due.

I told her I was not paying for it and to forget about me activating service with Primeco for my brother. I told her to correct her system showing my cancellation in November and she said OK.

Well, now it is August 2002 and I receive a letter in the mail from a collection agency for a balance due to, yes you've guessed it, Primeco. I immediately called Primeco's customer care center in Chandler, AZ, which is where I was connected to, to correct this problem.

I was told that there was no notes in their system stating that I cancelled the service in November 2001, but their system was showing that I cancelled the service in April 2002. I told her the whole story about cancelling in Novemeber and trying to get service for my brother in April. She, the manager Diane, said that I had to pay the balance or call the collection agency. I said that a collection agency cannot do anything because you guys are the ones who sent it to a collection agency. Diane said that it was too late to dispute the charges. I said that I did not know about this collection until I got my mail the day prior to this call. Her final statement was there is nothing I could do. If you don't pay it will be reflected in your credit.

She refused to do anything about the fake charges, which I believe were added because I cancelled my service and I was not under a contract and now they require contracts.
