EDitor's Comment: Rip-off Report Investigation: Primerica gets a POSITIVE RATING in customer support from Rip-off Report and is fulfilling its commitment to provide excellent customer service. Primerica pledges to resolve complaints and address representative issues. For a long time this EDitor had concerns about Primerica because of the number of Reports about them. For many months Rip-off Report was looking into the company, even before they contacted us to resolve any issues and mostly misunderstandings being posted by competitors. With over 100,000 representatives and 6 million clients, Primerica is bound to be the subject of a certain number of complaints about improper agent conduct, as well as product and administrative complaints. Rip-Off's investigation found such complaints, but importantly also found that Primerica is committed to resolving such complaints quickly and doing everything possible to satisfy its clients. It also takes appropriate action against any of its representatives who are found to have conducted themselves improperly or unethically. We believe that the number of complaints against this company, whether through the Internet or other channels, is small when put into the context of its enormous size. Most big companies would never commit themselves like Primerica has. Read our investigative Report and Primerica's commitment to 100% consumer satisfaction. www.primerica.com provides products and services through independent representatives. Primerica www.primerica.com has more than 100,000 licensed representatives who serve more than 6 million clients in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, Spain and the United Kingdom. Through a Financial Needs Analysis www.primericafna.com, the companys representatives provide a snapshot of a familys financial picture and suggest a strategy for financial security via Primericas products and services www.primericafinancialsolutions.com. Primericas business opportunity is attractive to people from many different backgrounds, including women www.womeninprimerica.com, African-Americans www.primericaaalc.com, Hispanics www.primericalatino.com and young adults www.generationprimerica.com.

I received several late evening telephone calls from a person named "Rebecca" who was "recruiting" for a very fast paced and very upwardly mobile company called "Primerica Financial Services". She left me several messages and I attempted to return her calls during the day, but always got her voicemail. Finally, late one evening she called and I happened to be home and she began to explain to me why she was calling. She mentioned that my name had been given to them as a good prospect for employment. I receive calls from "headhunters" from time to time and I quickly assumed that she was one also. We talked for a few minutes and then I informed her that I would have to think about her job offer. I didn't feel comfortable with what she told me and so I never called her back. I then decided to get on the Internet and check ut "Primerica". The second hit I found was your site describing their questionable tactics. I then knew why I did not feel comfortable with my conversation with "Rebecca". I had initially felt as if I was being "conned" into some type of scheme. And now after reading your site, I was convinced that the feeling I had was of dread. Thank you so much for putting this type of valuable information out for others to read. Rod Jermain Rip-off Report EDitor's Suggestion:::::

I too was an agent w/ PFS. You are NOT a freaking business owner, you are an INDEPENDENT AGENT. Appearently, you an agent that didn't get very far in school, when my 6 year olds can spell better than you.

How can you tell people not to dog what they don't know, when you yourself am misleading people. Even in PFS's disclosure it says that your sales are based upon your organizational size that YOU build, the number of sales, the override commission (you know the money other people make for you), and the efforts of your downlines. Hello, you do know what a downline is, right?

Didn't you just claim that PFS doesn't do pyramid scams? It also makes it very clear that YOU WILL NOT ever earn the figures that PFS gives you, you know the "dream" money. I guess your whipped pretty good to not even see the truth yourself.

Before you tell people this isn't true informtaion, blah blah, make sure you know what your talking about first.

:Those of you that read all this stuff should know that you need to do your research.

That's why they're here. Do you think research consists solely of a visit to Primerica's wasteland of a website?

: But you see an agent of Primerica isn't a employee but a business owner

WRONG. You own nothing. Only a very very few people in Primerica own their business or clients.

:that is out to help everyone learn what is needed to retire with their goals and dreams, not debt.

That's why you generate artificial need with the FNA, so that you can convince them that buying your products is the ticket to wealth. It is not.

:We are not a MLM. Look up what a MLM is, then go out and do your research on Primerica and you will see that we are not one.

Wow! What a lie! You most certainly are MLM. The Press section of your website confirms it, and you fall under the FTC definition of an MLM.

:If you want an oppertunity, not a dream, and were talked to by an PFS Agent about coming to a business meeting, please do yourself a favor and come and see what we do.

May as well play the lottery if you just want an opportunity. The odds are similar.

:And if you have any questions when you are done, ask to speak to the RVP for the answers. And if the RVP can not help you, then please find another office. But please do us all a favor don't dog what you don't understand.

So if a vice president of the company can't answer your question, you're supposed to walk/drive/waste your time finding ANOTHER office and start the process over again? I think we all 'understand' what goes on here.

:Oh by the way to the auther of this report, you didn't do your homework, we are not a Home Based Business, we have offices that we work in.

Really? Do you have a desk? A phone?

What a load of tripe.

Those of you that read all this stuff should know that you need to do your research. I am a Primerica Agent, I am asking you to visit your local Primerica office and ask to speak to the RVP if you have any questions about what we do. But you see an agent of Primerica isn't a employee but a business owner that is out to help everyone learn what is needed to retire with their goals and dreams, not debt. We are not a MLM. Look up what a MLM is, then go out and do your research on Primerica and you will see that we are not one.

How do you really know their legitimate?

#6UPDATE EX-employee responds

So, how do you really know their legit? You don't? Tell you what, go to their website and read their disclosure information. Bet you back out quickly. Let me sum it up. Your screwed. I worked for the company. The government shut that perticular office down, why? Because they were running a scam. And you may be in the position to boost about how they helped you, but wait. Read all your finacial information, you'll see what I'm trying to tell you. Did you know that Primerica is not FDIC insured? Bet they convinced you they were.

You want to know why the report was posted by someone that didn't get in bed with this company. Well, probally because that person wanted to do the American thing and warn people of what is going on. I feel bad for you, because you are doing business with them. I hope people read this report and all the others on Primerica, then maybe teh point will get accross.

#7Consumer Suggestion

Fri, July 19, 2002

I've had some experience with Primerica over the last several months from both sides of the fence--as a customer and a recruit. I have some info and some FYI/advice.

On the customer side I can say that they have some great products that are rated very highly in the industry. However, if you are looking for the lowest interest rate loan or cheapest insurance, you probably won't find it here. They will help you set up your finances with the goal of getting out of debt and preparing for retirement. If you need those services, Primerica can help you. If you don't or are in control of your own finances (or can afford to pay someone to assist you), you probably wouldn't need them and probably wouldn't find a "better deal" through them. They put together a financial package for you and can construct a solid plan to get you out of debt. But if you have the knowledge, time and conviction to put together your own financial package/plan by shopping all over and doing the research, you can probably save yourself even more money than they can. I went with their service because I did not have the time or the desire to do this. They are saving me tons of cash and have helped me get my finances in order. I know I could save even more by shopping around and researching everything myself, but I am paying for the convenience and service. I'm happy with what I am getting. In another circumstance, I may not be as happy.

If this service DOES interest you, you have to be careful you don't get a poorly trained agent. One of their mottos (literally) is "you find quality through quantity". This is a common theme in an MLM, but rather misplaced in this industry, IMO. The result is that a new recruit is raced through training and certification and often comes out only able to recite a script that follows the brochure they show to clients. If your Primerica agent can't answer basic questions, but you think you might be interested in the service, see about getting another Primerica agent. Theoretically, that agent's Regional VP should be much more knowledgeable and s/he DOES still work in the field. If you cannot find one knowledgeable person at the Primerica office near you or don't think it's worth asking, I suggest looking to another company. Certainly DO complain to Primerica about the poorly trained Rep that visited you! Don't assume you won't be heard. Sometimes you have to remind people and businesses that they are accountable.

Regarding the training of new recruits at Primerica-- it is very superficial and face-paced. Not only that, they want you to recruit and train new people when you barely know what *you* are doing. You can see how the knowledge and skill level would go downhill, so I am not surprised about many of the complaints on this site. What may seem like a scam though, is most likely the result of this typically poor training.

If you are thinking about joining Primerica, or are already on board, take responsibility for yourself. Ask questions; pester EVERYONE on your team. See if you can accompany more than one person out into the field. Study the industry and the products you will be selling. And COMPLAIN about the training if it is not adequate. If no one on your team or at that particular office will assist you, get the heck out of Dodge AND complain Primerica headquarters.

By the way, the $199 background check and licensing fee is NOT a "membership" fee. But the refundability is limited. You can get it all back in the first 24 hours and about 75% of it back before 60 days or your first class (whichever comes first). Beware, you might get sent to class right away, thus forfeiting the money. I don't believe they do this so they can keep your money (they aren't getting rich off of your $199)--it's just that they rush you through everything... quantity over quality... sigh... I don't like this set-up though, and it is something that will likely come back to bite Primerica in the a*s--especially since not everyone who works as Ind. Contractors for them really understands what its for and how it works.

The meetings Primerica holds for its recruits are helpful for learning sales techniques and for motivating people, but not much for learning useful things about loans, insurance or investments. The info IS available, but you have to go after it yourself. I took it upon myself to learn the industry and become knowledgeable. That's just how I am. I don't expect that most people are that way--nor should they HAVE to be in this situation, especially after forking over $199... But get your money's worth. Don't let them rush you; control the pace of your training. If you don't have that kind of assertive personality, chances are you won't do very well in this (or any) sales-focused industry anyway. (Note I said ASSERTIVE--not AGGRESSIVE).

I believe that the training situation is the same in most of the Primerica offices, so if you go to try it out, be prepared for a lot of self-study if you want to do the best and most responsible job. You truly are an INDEPENDENT contractor in every sense of the word.

Do I think this situation is right? Not at all. Am I still working with Primerica? Yes, Part-time. Why? Because unlike many similar jobs, there is no quota, nothing mandatory about your working hours, and the commission payout is pretty high. In addition, the Primerica workforce in my area is very racially and socially diversified, and the atmosphere is very accepting and laid back. I like what I do. I think the company promotes good products and has an acceptable mission. All of this is enough for me to stay on board, but you couldn't call me a "company rah-rah person" and you won't see me sending emotional rebuttals to disgruntled Primerica customers or recruits. I apologize for those negative experiences and admonish those Primerica reps who support this "rush 'em through" training mentality that promotes these situations. MAKE SURE YOUR PEOPLE KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!

This is definitely a "buyer beware" situation. (Type in just about any company you've ever done business with--including ones you like a lot--and you'll probably find them on this website. They all screw up, and some royally). I don't agree with the quantity over quality training. It's irresponsible and, as I touched on above with the $199, it will come back to bite Primerica in the a*s. But I believe that is a decent company with some really great ideas...and one really, really dumb one: "quantity over quality."

Thanks for reading.

Primerica Helped Us get finances in order

#8Consumer Suggestion

Thu, July 18, 2002

I was contacted about Primerica 7 years ago. I wish I had done what they said, it would have saved us from disater. We didn't do anything with the company until this year. Long story short, they did help us get cheaper life insurance, set up our investments, IRA's etc. I did run into 2 pushy Primerica agents before this, so I understand, but like all large companies, there are lousy employees also. I investigated the company and they are above board and found out they were one of the biggest companies around.I got a better agent.
I would suggest the consumer get hold of a different Primerica agent. sounds like they got a bad one! They have helped us tremoundously. If you didn't get involved with them, what are you complaining for ?????????
