Purrfect Auto Service, Martin, manager, Rudy, mechanic all robbers! Rip-off! Arcadia, California
Dear Editor,
I had a coupon for oil change from Purrfect Auto Service for $9.95 or so for most cars. I called Purrfect Auto service at 400 South Baldwin Avenue, Ste. 300 Arcadia, CA 91007, license# AA214466 to confirm the price of an oil change for my Nissan Xterra 2000 on Friday11/26/04. The manager (Martin) told me it was $16. 95.
I went there for the oil change and a tire rotation to see if I need brake service. Martin told me the tire rotation was free, and I had to wait 2hrs1/2 . 21 point inspection was also written on the order form by Martin. After 2hrs1/2 I didn't hear Martin call me as he promised so I walked back from JCPenny to check on my car. Martin said the car was done and he charged me $19.95+ tax. I didn't agree but I didn't want to make a big deal out of few dollars as he said that he filled up all the fluids for me. I told him on my way out: "I will never come back to Purrfect Auto service again". Martin said: "Oh yes, you will".
I went out to look at my car. The tires were not rotated. I opened the hood to look at the fluids. They were not filled. I checked the oil. I saw the oil seemed to be clean but I wasn't even sure they even changed the oil. I went back in to talk to Martin. He went out to the car with me spitting profanity. He said he would change the tires for me right away.
I waited another hour and a half. I saw he trying to ignore me so I asked him: "Will you change the tires for me soon?". Martin called Rudy the mechanic who performed the order and they talked to each other. Rudy and Martin then ganged up to refuse to rotate the tires saying there was no need to rotate the tires. I insisted that I wanted to rotate the tires regardless and that was part of the order that I paid for. So Martin let me wait for another 1/2 hour.
I then asked Martin again. Martin jumped out of the car he's working on to give me the key back and decided not to rotate the tires for me. I then asked for my money back. He said: "No, I am not giving you the money back. Call the police if you want". I asked for his owner's name. Martin said: "He has no name". I asked him: "So who pays you?" "Are you the owner?". Martin just walked away from me to end the conversation. Rudy passed by so I asked for his name. Rudy yelled at me: "Get out of here," We don't want your business." I told him : "You don't do business. You are robbing people. You are robbers.", and I left.
I am writing this so that nobody will have to experience what I have experienced with Purrfect Auto Service.

Before taking your vehicle for service: Find if the repair shop belong to a reputable Automotive Asociation such as AAA. I always recommend to use the services of AAA. AAA check all the repair facilities that associate with it assuring, the technician that works on the vehicle got the proper training and experience, also customer satisfaction is very high. If you can not find one with AAA in your area find one with good reputation, also always verify that the technician is qualified (ASE Certified). If you have questions or doubts, ask why the repair is needed and what kind of parts are going to be install in your vehicle. Most of the reputable shops will give you a 12,000 miles or 1 year warranty on the repairs they perform. If the shop is not going to give you the warranty above just do not leave your vehicle there. When you see oil changes for $16.99 expect to be charged with something else. Free tire rotation? Be aware!! Runnig a business cost money, nobody works for free. The free stuff is to get you there and see what else can be sold. We own an auto repair business, an oil change cost as follows (most 4 cyliders domestic vehicles): Oil Filter : $4.60 4 qts. 10w30 : $7.60 Waste Fee: $2.00 Labor: $10.00 Tax: 1.00 Total:$25.20 The average oil change takes 20 minutes. Like you can see it will be impossible to be on business doing oil changes at $15.99 If the technician have to work on a vehicle he have to be paid. Do not get traped with the free oil change or free tire rotation, is always obscure behind the free stuff. Thanks,
