Hired Bruce Howard in January 2016 to put in tile flooring, Granite countertops, paint, install kitchen backsplash, hang a few lighting fixtures. He owns Reliable Local Contrractor but has other names he's using. He asked for half the money up front 8,000 and then we have him another 2,800 before the project was finished. He only came to work Tuesday thru Thursday from 12pm to 3pm. We discussed the fact that we had a limited time of 3-4 weeks to complete the project and he agreed. Two months into the project we had expressed our concern because our vacation date was almost here and he was weeks over on the project. I kept asking him if he was going to get me the granite guy ... Something I had been asking him from the beginning but he kept blowing me off. He only had part of the time done and a few walls painted in two months. When we confronted him and asked if he would be finished he went into a rage and said a far away place had our tile and he wasn't about to drive an hour away to pick it up. We offered to go get the tile but he never returned our calls. We gave him 10,800 dollars and the only thing we have to show for it is uncompleted tile and a few painted walls. I didn't check his online reviews because he was recommended by a friend. I will never make that mistake again. We now are in the process of hiring another contractor.

Situation Resolved !!!!!!!

#2Consumer Comment

Tue, April 12, 2016

I wish to clarify & update the unusually harsh comments made by my wife towards Reliable Local Contractor & Bruce Howard.  Her comments were very much an emotional reaction towards what she believed to be substandard service.  She couldn't get 200% of what she asked for, so she took it out on Reliable Local Contractor and Bruce Howard by posting very negative comments on RipOff Report.

Once Bruce was made aware of what the issues really were, he took immediate steps to rectify the situation and I am completely satisfied with his work & the care with which he completed the work at my home.

I have no qualms with Reliable Local Contractors work ethic, attention to detail & would recommend them & Bruce Howard to anyone who would ask.  He is hard working and is very willing to work to with his clients and provide a great level of service to them.

Contractor Contacted Us

After filing this review Bruce Hoaward did contact us. He tried to tell us we owed him 1,000 more even though it was an all in price. He dragged out the job and then tried to charge us extra for is labor. The price he gave us was for all in of 15,890. Because he went over in time and wouldn't pick up the tile because it was "too far away." He told us his extra labor charges were 3,600 dollars. He didn't finish the job and the new contractor we just hired said he didn't float the floor before he laid the tile and that's why it's very uneven. Now Bruce Howard is threatening us because of this review and said he's going to sue us for lost work. In a week he's claiming he lost 200,000 in business because of this negative review (He's a Handyman .. I doubt he's ever done a job anywhere close to that amount). He's bullying us and I tried to take this down because it's not worth being bullied over a review. RipOf Report has a strict policy of not removing reviews because of what's happening to me ... being threatened. fWhatever happened to free speech ... especially when you're in the right. I have photos of the mess he made of our floors and the messy painting job. So, we have unfinished flooring that is uneven and painting that isn't finished and done very sloppily. If I could post potos here I would. He got 10,800 dollars for an improperly, unfinished install of tile and walls painted .. I could have done a better job and they are unfinished.

Quote from Contractor to Fix

#4Author of original report

Fri, April 08, 2016

We had another contractor come in to give us a quote on repairing the floor and finishing and sanding some parts of the painted walls. The walls have drips on them and places where the paint got clotted all around the archways. I has to be fixed. The contracted was shaking his head in disbelief because the tile floor which is wide long planks wasn't floated and now you can see the edges of every piece of time. It's very uneven. They didn't install the time properly and will have to be ripped out.
