Sharon, This kind of thing happens to me all the time. A simple letter to the three major credit bureaus (or at least the bureaus reporting the account) explaining that this is not yours should fix the problem. I usually write There is an account on my credit file named whatever. This is not mine, please remove it. The credit bureau will then forward your dispute to Rentacenter. They have 30 days to respond with verification that the account is indeed valid. If they dont respond within the time frame the credit reporting agency will remove the entry from your file.
