Although I contacted Experian about this prior to writing the report and the debt was somehow verified by RGS, I did not contact RGS as I assumed they would not be helpful due to the reputation of collection agencies. Whether they would have been helpful if I called is not something I can attest to, but after filing this report Chris was very helpful in getting everything resolved. Overall I am pleased with the outcome and I look forward to it being removed from my credit report within a few days.
