I live in Wisconsin and this dealer is in Illinois. I saw on the Internet that he was advertising a 1999 Dodge Intreprid with only 44,000 miles for only $4200. He had many pictures posted and the car looked extremely clean and at that price, a bargain.

So, I drove hundreds of miles down into Illinois only to find out the car stunk, had electrical problems, rust in unusual places, and was probably involved in a flood. When asking the dealer about it, he said no, none of these cars have been in floods - they all have clean titles. Well, I felt my whole trip was wasted - so I looked at about 10 other cars on his lot and test drove them all. Nearly every single car on his lot had some sort of problem with it. This guy buys his cars from auctions where other dealers sell them because they have problems too expensive to fix.

#1. Do not be tempted by anything you see on the Internet from this dealer. When you arrive in person, the car is likely to have something wrong with it.

#2. Only look at his cars if you are local to the area.

#3. Pay a professional mechanic to throughly inspect the car you want to buy.

#4. Get the title when you pay for the car.

I ended up buying another car on his lot that I thought was okay. It ended up needing over $1,800 in repairs. The power locks didn't work, there was no key to open the trunk, two tie rods were broken, the car needed new tires and alignment, the hood needed new support holder-uppper thingys, the radiator was full of bad fluid, the oil needed to be change, and the gas tank was empty (he refused to fill it when I bought the car).

Anyway, he told me he'd send the title the day after I bought it using FedEx next day air service. He never did. It took him over a month to send the title (I was concerned I'd never get it). When he did send the title, he sent it to the wrong address and I ended up having to drive 190 miles just to go get the title. That a-hole.

Michael Rose's rebuttle is false information. #1. When I called asking about my title, I also mentioned that the car needed expensive repairs. His dealership ignored my request. Furthermore, they have done nothing, and have no intent to do anything about my out-of-pocket repair expenses. #2. The car still needs additional repairs and work done. Michael Rose refuses to help with them. #3. Michael Rose claims the title was sent late because I provided him the wrong address. This is false. Multiple times, I provided him my correct address. I know they had the correct address because they sent me an 8-day temporary permit (that he claims cost $150 to send via FedEx). After sending the permit to the correct address, they sent the actual car title to the WRONG address....not my fault...I gave them the correct address and they had it on file. I can prove that. #4. I should not be forced into purchasing a $2,000 warranty on a car with 60,000 miles. Even if I had purchased it, it doesn't cover much - probably not the parts I needed replaced. #5. I still have repairs needed and unreimbursed expenses. This was the purpose of my complaint and it has not been addressed. Some of the items that needed to be replaced were safety issues. Driving this car home, I could have been killed in an accident because the dealer sold it in un-safe working condition.

I am required to tell how this customer and other customers can avoid the situation Mike got in when he came to my dealership to look at a dodge intrepid I had for sale..Well Mike ended buying a different car from me and He did not mention the car he wanted to buy I told him not to because he was going from 1991 Fire Birds to Blazers to J 30 infinity's. I was concerned he was being to hasty.. He drove six cars and the most important thing to him was if his stereo boom box would fit in the trunk. Before he drove each car I had the trunk opened for him so he could measure it to see if his stereo boom box would fit.He even had me go on the web site he was buying the stereo boom box from to get the measurements. I was thinking maybe a car fax report might be a better idea. Lesson number one never buy a car with the stereo being the main concern. I have the young drivers often call me on a car and the first thing they ask is does it have a CD player. Mike also ended getting at My dealership 5 minutes before we closed..I could tell he knew his drive home was long and he seemed in a hurry to get it over with .Lesson number two never rush when your buying a car. after Mike finally settled on a low mile 60,000 Mile Chrysler concord I ran a car fax for him it was a one owner car.now remember he drove 5 other cars before deciding on this one. Mike lives far away so I told him if he needed any repairs on the car to call me but if they were expensive repairs he would have to bring the car down to me and have it fixed. I warned him that because he's far away and that could be a problem for him..I suggested he wait and I would have it inspected locally for him since he was so far away any problems once he drove the car home could be harder for me to fix for him .Lesson number three never buy a car that's 10 years old if you don't have it inspected first and your 190 miles away.Mike stated that the car needed two tie rods they were broken he says. Well that holds the tires on the front of the car so I must dispute that being a fact.Mike says it took a month to get his title this is true because he gave us his drivers license to fill out his paper work and it was his old address and he didn't tell my finance manager so the title got mailed to the wrong address. Lesson number four even though dealers usually ask if your address is correct always make sure you tell them if its not. Mike also was offered a warranty on this car and declined to purchase one if he had purchased one most of the problems he had would of been covered. lesson number five always buy a warranty on a used car..people buy home, car collision, health even TV insurance but don't buy mechanical repair insurance I scratch my head constantly when they say no.Mike failed to mention he never called me when he took the car in for repairs so I was at the mercy of whatever bill the mechanic handed him.but funny thing Mike never told me he had any thing wrong with the car until I finally tracked down the title the post office lost because he gave us a wrong address ..Lesson number six always call the dealer that sold you the car to see if they will help you with repairs. And Mike never mentions that we spent $150 dollars fed xing him temp tags until we found the title and we never asked him to pay this. We spend thousands of dollars a month fixing cars for customers as a courtesy. Mike failed to mention he declined the warranty and signed our required no warranty form and he sighed the car is AS_IS what this means we are not responsible for repairs. lesson number seven don't sign anything that gives away your rights unless you are willing to pay for the consequences.Mike used abusive language and you can see by his complaint he filed here its common for him to swear and curse at people. This can tend to make people less wanting to help the customer. Lesson number eight don't expect premium service if you calling the person your talking to a bunch of foul names. Mike talked me down on the car until I was making around $275 dollars on the car .lesson number nine expect to buy your own gas when this happens. buying a car is easy I recommend buyers like Mike do the most important thing of all TAKE YOUR TIME!
