Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

Univiersities and colleges are nickle and diming and overcharging our students for everything from taping a poster to a wall, to overcrowded living situations, to overcrowded unavailable classes forcing them to commit to >4 years.  However, when simple fees are incorrectly assessed and no effort is made to either communicate or reimburse, it's outrageous.  The University and staff seem to forget that we do pay tuition for THEIR service to the STUDENT.  Below is the series of communications by date.

October 31, 2017 from Parent to the Dean

Dean Jones & Student Affairs,

Regarding the fee charged for parking for half of this fall semester, I was shocked to discover that the parking charge was not prorated for half of the a semester.  The space was not granted until October 24th.

I understand that this is a school, and as such, this is most certainly an oversight.  Even parking garages in NYC prorate their fees.  Since the school pretty much has a monopoly on student parking in Glassboro, to not prorate this fee would be unconscionable, and bordering on fraud while exploiting the students.

I would appreciate it if the appropriately prorated amount (50%) is reimbursed to Rowan Bucks account (ID if credit can be made in that manner.

Thank you.

All,

The radio silence is to say the least disconcerting.  If I do not hear from you by December 1st, I will file a RipOff report.

Regards,

Parent

And so here we are.  The college is ripping off a student by charging for a full semester of parking while only getting 50% of the semester.

I understood your situation, but it is the way all universities can get away with. It is their property. If their parking policy said everyone who wants to use their parking must pay for a full semester, it is their right to say so.

Your example is comparing orange with apple. Schools are not parking garage companies. Their main purpose is to give education, not providing parking. Besides, students pay money to get education, not services. You are comparing orange with apple. Schools are not parking garage companies. If you are complaining about their education quality, then I may agree with you. However, parking is a different story.

If they are nice enough, they would allow half semester plan. Though, I doubt that any universities/colleges would go through that kind of trouble to keep track on this type of revenues. Besides, the way you handle it is somewhat in your face (your first email). I'm sorry but I don't expect you to get a good news from them.
