I purchased a $600.00 treadmill from this store. When I got home, no delivery was not offered at my convenience, I found the unit to be broken in the box. When I called the store, I was spoken to rudely and very quickly hung up.

The following day I returned the treadmill, determined not to provoke anyone I delt with. Remember, delivery hours end before I can get home in the afternoon, I borrowed a truck and a friend to help return this item (the same friend from yesterday). As soon as I said, "I'm returning the treadmill." I was asked, "Do you want a replacement?" My reply was, "No just refund my Sears card." From this point I was treated very rudely. I was made to assist in unloading the treadmill.

I was called a jack-a*s, my friend (whom I told not to help unload) was called a lazy-a*s for not helping me unload, and I was told by another person I would receive no refund until I appologized to the person I had dealt with thus far.

Here is why I can no longer shop at any Sears store.

The store in question is owned and operated by a married couple. I would assume this means "mom & pop" and friendly, small-town atmosphere. The first person I dealt with on the phone and at the store, is the lady, I use the term loosly, she used "a*s" twice when referring to customers, while speaking to a customer. The person who made me appologize is her husband. Sears corperate took my call, said they logged a complaint and a "superviser" would be contacting me within two weeks.

This incident took place in January, 2002. I still have not heard from them. I have been a Sears card holder for over 15 years (it was my first, I'm only 33 yrs. old) and have been a good customer, never getting behind on my bill.

Please stop giving Sears your business. There are so many other stores, with better products, and/or better prices.

Sears is far from the best of any store. I'll be happy to throw so examples at you. My mother goes into Sears each and every month, that she makes a purchase, and pays her bill in full. She went to a cashier and gave her the bill, a check and cash. The check was for items that I had purchased on her card when she was with me, she paid cash for her portion. The woman looks at her and very rudely tells her she is short. My mother had to count the money to her several times because she was to stupid to count it correctly. My mother is a very calm, nice and quiet person. This cashier starts yelling at her telling her she is confussing her because she can't pay her bill with a check and with cash. My mother worked at this Sears before during the holiday for some extra spending money, so she knew exactly how easy it was for the woman to put this information into the computer without making a mistake. She continued yelling and started cursing at her, sorry I don't stand for anyone talking to my mother in this way. Especially after she made the comment, "White people just can't count." That's insulting since we are not white. She continued and I took my moms bill and money to the office, no problems there. Another point, my husband has been out to numerous jobs where Sears "specialists" or "Techs" have screwed up a job or tryed to cheat the customer. My parents also purchased a treadmill at Sears along with a weight set. ($2500+ for everything) Upon getting home and setting it up, which was a real pain, there were several pieces missing. When she called the store they told her she would need to bring in her recite and speak to someone in sporting goods. She did, they gave her an attitude and asked where the equipment was. Duh??? They demanded she bring it back in, we had already spent 8+ hours trying to put this thing together and all she wanted was the pieces that were missing. She went through Hell with the store. She called and spoke to a supervisor in sporting goods who told her to bring the list of missing pieces back and let her know what days she would be there. When my mother went back to the store the associate was rude and told her the manager had better things to do, etc. Finally a woman came up (about 30 minutes later) and asks what was wrong, we told her, and she asked for the list of pieces that were missing. She then went to the back and came out with each and every piece. She apologized and told us the associate had alot of complaints and would be fired. He still works there. Amazingly enough. Oh, about your Craftman remark, it's NOT a Sears garantee, it's a Craftsman garantee and anyone who sells there tools must coinside with their garantee. By the way, my husband does use Craftsman tools because of their warranty, he uses them daily and the tools do get stripped at times. When either of use take it back to Sears, they get an attitude (everytime), and 9 times out of 10, they don't have that tool in stock and we have to wait until they get a new shipment in. And, finally, the Sears I've described is located in our local mall, not a small town Sears, so your comments are crap.

Name the store that is better to deal with??? Are you sure this is the way everything happened? I find this hard to believe! I've been buying from Sears for 30 years with nary a problem. I know some stores are "associate" stores as is the one you are writing of, but from personal experiences, I say you can't beat Sears. I would just like to know which store has better "customer service"...As an end thought, have you ever broken a craftsman tool?... did you have any trouble replacing it...? Sears is #1 in my book
