Hello,it is sad to see people have bad feedback about things. As regards Shoprider,i am not connected to them. But every Scooter has it,s own Serial Number. The problems can arise from Badly Trained Staff & not the Product.
I research various things that interest me & that is where my knowledge comes from + i have to try & see what fault something may have.
Everything made will have faults, some more than others. But they will be there,if they were not.Everything would only be sold once, needing no spare parts.

I've had one of these for several years and the only problems I've had are those of having to replace batteries, a flat tire, and, currently, needing work on the throttle control.
I have to say that my Shoprider gets fairly rough treatment in that I use it for travel off paved surfaces. I do have to be careful to make sure any obstructions are low enough for the scooter to clear, and, if the surface is rough, I slow down. I also don't speed through turns.
If I had it to do over again, I'd go with the solid tire upgrade.
I've not had the concerns of the writer of the original report in that I had no prior experience with products from Pihsiang so that question never arose. I've only had to contact Shoprider a couple of times with questions after I'd started using the scooter and found their responses agreed with what I found.
I'm a bit smaller being 6'1" and 298 lbs.
For me, I would recommend the four wheel versus the three wheel configuration since I believe it to be more stable.

The complaint/report has me very leery, first it is 7 years old. Second about the time the report was filed Pihsiang stopped producing the Shoprider for a period of time, a lawsuit against them was brought by a few medical groups but this point is really not relevant. MY point is I owned a Pihsiang Shoprider (a 1992 model PH-8C)from 1993 to 2000, in 2001 I bought a SPRINTER JUMBO XL 889X the Shoprider people never hid the fact it was a Pihsiang made medical device, as a matter of fact it was in all of their brochures and in the owners manual.. There are also warnings in their brochures and owners manual all the way back to my PH-8C that warn about Radio Frequency interference causing erratic behavior. ALL brands are required to carry these warnings because it is a well known issue. Shoprider warned me NOT to use their scooters in "Foul" weather. There is half a page dedicated to not using them in rain nor snow. (Look up the manual on-line for the Sprinter XL3 Deluxe) The model this guy states he has, has to be a custom made model as that is what Shoprider told me it would take to get the Deluxe's seat on the Jumbo. (Even with a swivel seat you cannot reset to button by swiveling the seat) Their is also not a single model made by Shoprider that is rated for 600lbs there is a 500lb limit on the Sprinter Jumbo, however the swivel seats are not rated for 500lbs!! (the salesman asked my weight for the seat choices). Pihsiang is the pioneer of the scooter and power wheel chair industry, manufacturing the first scooter and powerchair in the world in 1989. The Shoprider is sold literally all over the world, in a very brief search I found them for sale in: France, Great Britain, Brazil, Iran, China, Morocco, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan (Japan has the most stringent laws in the world on medical devices like scooters and powerchairs), Netherlands, (actually more than eighty countries worldwide) so a fly by night company they are not! And finally right in the owners manuals for both of my Shopriders is the following information: Pihsiang Machinery Mfg Co., Ltd 108, Shinhe Rd., Shinfeng Shiang, Hsin Feng Hsiang,Hsinchu County,Taiwan Which is the same address for my 1992 model, my 2001 model and is still in the same location today (2008) Oh in case the address is not enough.... Here is the phone number as well 1-886/3-5688585 There are just too many inconsistencies in this complaint. For instance he states it is manufactured in Taiwan and then writes that the company won't tell him and mentions maybe Florida. This is not a place to mix facts with emotionally charge accusations. If anything he should have had a beef with the distributors he was calling if the conversation was with them which would be Shoprider Healthcare, Inc. unless he used a different sales company. I would be very interested to see what came out of this after 7 years.
